Dolphins Star Tyreek Hill Shockingly Snubs Former Chiefs Teammate Patrick Mahomes for $260 Million QB

Between 2018 and 2022, Tyreek Hill and Patrick Mahomes formed the NFL’s most explosive offensive combination. From their signature peace sign celebrations to game-changing playoff moments, their connection helped launch the Kansas City Chiefs’ championship dynasty.

But nearly three years after Hill’s departure to Miami, his latest quarterback rankings might surprise Chiefs fans.

Why Did Tyreek Hill Choose Lamar Jackson Over Patrick Mahomes?

Hill delivered another trademark bold take when ranking the league’s best quarterbacks, and this time his former teammate didn’t come out on top. The six-time All-Pro considered Mahomes alongside Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, and Jayden Daniels, but ultimately sided with Lamar Jackson.

The numbers support Hill’s reasoning more than critics might expect. When looking at regular-season production, Jackson and Mahomes post remarkably similar statistics.

Both quarterbacks average exactly 7.8 yards per pass attempt throughout their careers, while their passer ratings differ by just 0.1 points, with Mahomes holding the slight edge. Jackson’s .745 career win percentage ranks second league-wide, trailing only Mahomes’ .795 mark.

However, the Chiefs quarterback maintains a 4-1 advantage in their head-to-head matchups, including one playoff victory.

The distinction becomes clearer when examining postseason performance. Mahomes owns three Super Bowl MVP trophies and has established himself as the league’s premier clutch performer. At the same time, Jackson’s 3-5 playoff record continues to raise questions about his ability to elevate his game when it matters most.

How Are Fans Reacting to Hill’s Controversial Take?

Social media erupted with mixed reactions to Hill’s quarterback rankings. Some fans used the opportunity to troll the Dolphins receiver about Miami’s recent playoff struggles.

“He’s been in Miami for so long, the playoffs don’t mean anything to him anymore,” a fan wrote, referencing the franchise’s postseason drought.

“He still hasn’t forgiven Mahomes for choosing Kelce over him…,” another fan joked.

However, other supporters defended Hill’s assessment, pointing to recent performance trends. Mahomes has arguably played his least efficient football over the past two seasons, while Jackson reached new heights during his latest MVP campaign.

“I mean I don’t really see a problem with that. Lamar is probably the most exciting QB in the league. I think Pat is the best in the league but I can’t hate on Reek picking Lamar,” wrote one fan.

The debate reflects Jackson’s rising status throughout the league. He topped PFSN’s list of Top 100 NFL Players in 2025, and a potential Super Bowl run this season would only strengthen arguments in his favor. Whether Hill’s prediction proves prophetic depends largely on how both quarterbacks perform when the stakes are highest.
