While much of the spotlight during the NFL Draft was on Shedeur Sanders, who unexpectedly fell to the fifth round despite being projected as a first-round pick, many overlooked Deion Sanders’ other son, Shilo.
Although Shilo was not selected in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Buccaneers signed him as an undrafted rookie free agent. His father attended the first day of training camp to support him.
Deion Sanders Attends Buccaneers Training Camp to Support Son Shilo
Shilo did not receive nearly as much attention during his college football career as his brother Shedeur. He committed to South Carolina in 2019 as a three-star cornerback recruit.
After two seasons with the Gamecocks, Shilo transferred and switched to safety to play under his father at Jackson State in 2021. He then followed Coach Prime to Colorado for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
While Shilo wasn’t a highly touted prospect heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, he did generate buzz, and although he wasn’t drafted, the Buccaneers signed him as a UDFA.
Shilo enters training camp aiming to earn a spot on Tampa Bay’s final 53-man roster, and his father is there to support him on the team’s first day of practice.

Coach Prime was seen talking with Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles and watching as the team began its 2025 training camp.

It’s great to see Deion supporting Shilo as the young safety faces an uphill battle with training camp underway. According to CBS Sports’ Eric Galko, only about 15 to 20 undrafted free agents make an NFL roster each season. Earning a spot is a long shot with roughly 400 UDFAs entering the league every year.
In simple terms, the odds are heavily stacked against Shilo. However, he has great genes as his pops had an elite 14-year NFL career as a cornerback, including six first-team All-Pro honors, two second-team All-Pro honors, and one Defensive Player of the Year award.
Shilo will have about four weeks to prove to the Buccaneers staff that he deserves a spot on the roster. If he is cut or placed on the practice squad, there is still a chance another NFL team could sign him during the season.
Regardless of whether Shilo makes an NFL roster, it’s great to see Deion making the effort to support his son. Primetime has always been very publicly supportive of his children, and even though he is no longer Shilo’s coach, he is clearly excited to follow his son’s NFL journey.
