Colin Kaepernick’s wife, Nessa Diab, supported Nicki Minaj in her current feud with Jay-Z and his company, Roc Nation.
Diab put out a post on X, claiming that Jay-Z did the same to her husband by launching a smear campaign against Kaepernick due to his protest.
Why Did Nessa Diab Compare Jay-Z’s Treatment of Kaepernick to Nicki Minaj’s Situation?
Diab’s tweet added fuel to the ongoing dispute between Minaj, Jay-Z, Roc Nation, and specifically Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez. Minaj has made several serious claims against Roc Nation, suggesting a deliberate effort online to silence her and her fanbase.
Diab felt that the tactics Minaj alleged were similar to what was done to her husband. She included screenshots of an ESPN article about Jay-Z’s partnership with the NFL.
The article detailed the agreement between Jay-Z and the NFL, explaining how the NFL hired the singing mogul to improve the halftime show and, more importantly, help the league improve its social justice agenda. The article also noted that the league wanted to move on from its teams’ unwillingness to sign Kaepernick.
In her tweet, Diab wrote, “exposing the smear campaign tactics that Jay-Z, Roc Nation, Desiree Perez did to her behind the scenes, is VERY similar to what I was told they did to @Kaepernick7 when Jay purposely co-opted Colin’s protest by siding with the NFL to help “their image” after they blackballed Colin for his protest.”

The veteran Hot 97 radio DJ then continued by targeting Perez’s quote from the time the deal was announced.
“’We love that everybody wants to be on the stage, that we’ve completely changed the conversation to fighting for it versus boycotting. We’ve come a long way.’ She got her pardon by Trump – no coincidence the NFL owners are his buddies and also donated millions to his campaign.”
It is clear from her comments that Diab and Kaepernick still carry a grudge against the NFL and believe Jay-Z and his company are complicit in keeping him out of the league.
How Will Jay-Z and Roc Nation Respond to These Allegations?
As the feud continues to play out publicly, neither Jay-Z nor Roc Nation has issued a response to the mounting allegations.
The support from Diab suggests that Minaj’s claims may not be entirely unfounded. There are people outside the music industry who are critical of Roc Nation’s business practices. This tweet could potentially expand what began as a personal dispute into a broader conversation about corporate power and influence.
