Canadian tennis star Leylah Fernandez surprised fans this week with a hilarious invitation. The 22-year-old posted a cheeky video on Instagram announcing her desire to go on a real date for the first time, calling on fans to help make it happen.
Fernandez isn’t looking for romance through apps or matchmaking sites; she wants one lucky follower to join her for a one-hour date in Montreal.

Coming off a disappointing run at Wimbledon 2025, the Canadian seems to be in the mood for something lighthearted and different as she enjoys some downtime in her hometown. In the Instagram video, Fernandez sat casually as she addressed the camera with a smile:
“Hey guys, you know what I really want to do and that I haven’t done is actually going on a date. I’m not a big fan of dating apps, so I’m actually going to do things my way,” she said. “I’m going to go on one date for one hour in Montreal. So if you want to be my date, DM me, let me know about yourself, and yeah, see you there.”

The video was posted just weeks after she wrapped up her Wimbledon campaign. Fernandez had advanced to the second round at the All England Club for the third year in a row, beating British wildcard Hannah Klugman in straight sets before falling to Germany’s Laura Siegemund.
She also teamed up with New Zealand’s Lulu Sun in doubles, where they exited in the opening round. With the Mubadala Citi DC Open around the corner, running from Jul. 21 to 27, Fernandez appears to be recharging before her next challenge.

Fernandez’s 2025 Grass-Court Campaign in Review So Far
After exiting in the opening round of the French Open, the Canadian shifted her focus to the grass-court season. She opened her campaign at the HSBC Championships in London, where she suffered an early defeat to qualifier Tatjana Maria.
Bouncing back in Nottingham, Fernandez advanced to the quarterfinals before being stopped by Dayana Yastremska. At the Bad Homburg Open in Germany, she earned revenge against Maria with a commanding 6-0, 7-6(1) victory, but her run ended in the following round after two tightly contested tie-break sets against Italy’s Jasmine Paolini.
