Malik Nabers delivered a standout rookie campaign for the New York Giants after being selected sixth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. Despite inconsistent quarterback play, he totaled 1,204 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 109 catches. The former LSU Tigers star set an NFL record for receptions by a wide receiver in their rookie season, a performance that earned him Pro Bowl honors.
Nabers was recently the subject of a wild accusation as Summer Bunni, the mother of former Philadelphia Eagles star C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s child, claimed the Super Bowl 59 champion put a hit on the Giants’ wide receiver. The safety, who is now with the Houston Texans, recently responded to those allegations.
Texans’ C.J. Gardner-Johnson Responds to Wild Malik Nabers’ Accusation
Gardner-Johnson was a key piece of the Eagles’ defensive turnaround that helped them win their second Super Bowl title in franchise history. The cornerback appeared in 16 games, recording 59 total tackles, 35 solo tackles, two tackles for loss, six interceptions, one forced fumble, 12 passes defended, and one defensive touchdown.
But this past offseason, Gardner-Johnson was shipped to the Texans in exchange for guard Kenyon Green, a move that, at the time, shocked the former Eagle.
Now settled in his new home and on the cusp of the 2025 season, Gardner-Johnson recently appeared on “The Pivot Podcast”, where he addressed the wild accusations that he put a hit out on Nabers, stating:
“Respectfully, the only way I know the guy – kid – is we played against each other. Like I was telling my agent, the kid was in high school when I was in New Orleans. So, I don’t even know his family. Respectfully. There’s nothing on the football field to indicate we have any little football beef or off-the-field. Like I said, I don’t even know who his crew is.”
“So, the first person I hit was Jameis [Winston] because I played with Jameis. ‘If you can get me in contact with him because I don’t want your agent or your people being brought to something you don’t have nothing a part of.’ That’s respectfully, so, there’s nothing towards his family. The kid got a great future. We played against each other, shook hands and kept it going. So, there’s nothing to it.”
Gardner-Johnson revealed that he has not spoken to his child’s mother, as there is a no-contact court order in place. He added that he is keeping their communication through the courts as he is supposed to do. It is unclear what led her to make such strong accusations of him attempting to put a hit out on another NFL player.
Nabers has not publicly addressed the claim, and it is unclear whether the two have spoken privately.
