‘I Feel Like I’m 25 Years Old’ – Russell Wilson Shares Update on Physical, Mental Health Before First Season With Giants

New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson provides an update on physical and mental health and why it is the perfect place for his NFL comeback.

At 36 years old, Russell Wilson sounds like a quarterback who’s found his fountain of youth. The ten-time Pro Bowler joined the New York Giants on a one-year, $10.5 million, fully guaranteed contract this offseason, marking his fourth team in the past five seasons. After spending the 2024-25 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he threw for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 11 games played, Wilson is ready to lead a Giants franchise desperately searching for answers.

How Does Russell Wilson Feel About His Physical and Mental State?

The Super Bowl XLVIII champion completed 63.7% of his passes with Pittsburgh, adding 155 rushing yards on 43 carries and two touchdowns. Now he’ll lead a revamped quarterback room that includes free agent signing Jameis Winston, first-round draft pick Jaxson Dart, and incumbent quarterback Tommy DeVito.

Wilson spoke with Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated about his mindset heading into the 2025-26 season, and his comments reveal a player who feels rejuvenated. He stated:

“Honestly, I feel like I’m 25 years old all over again. And I think part of that is just physically I feel great. Mentally, I feel amazing in terms of, It’s possible. You know what I mean? And I think ultimately, a big part of it is the people you’re around, the players, the coaching staff, the mentality of the guys. And then being in the city. The energy of it is for people that like to be fast-paced, which is me.”

The Giants have regressed in each of the past two seasons after reaching the postseason in 2022. Wilson will look to lead a resurgence for the franchise in his 14th season as a starting NFL quarterback. His positive outlook comes at a crucial time for a team that finished just 3-14 last season.

What Are Wilson’s Teammates Saying About His Leadership?

Meanwhile, Wilson has already made an impression on his new teammates. The veteran quarterback’s work ethic and professionalism have caught the attention of players across the roster, particularly younger guys looking for leadership.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. recently appeared on FS1’s “The Facility,” where he shared his thoughts on Wilson’s impact. Tracy Jr. stated:

“Yeah, man, Russ been amazing. Russ has been amazing. Like, I really can’t say enough praise about him because he’s a true professional. And when he comes in the room, it’s like the energy he brings when he steps in that room.”

Despite being the oldest player on the roster, outside of kicker Graham Gano, Tracy Jr. revealed that Wilson is the first one in the building and the last one to leave. The running back noted that, being a young player, he has learned a lot from the veteran quarterback.

This leadership approach becomes even more important when considering the Giants’ quarterback situation. While the team selected Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, they will count on Wilson to help rebuild the franchise culture and establish the foundation for long-term success.
