Caitlin Clark Gets Brutally Honest About Her Shooting Slump After Fever’s Win Over Paige Bueckers’ Wings

Caitlin Clark spoke about her shooting slump after the Fever's win against the Wings and shed light on her struggles in an injury-riddled season.

Caitlin Clark’s shot isn’t falling, but her confidence isn’t shaken. The Indiana Fever star is shooting just 28.9% from three-point range in the 2025 WNBA season, down from 34.4% a year ago.

Yet after Sunday’s 102-83 win over Dallas, Clark made it clear she’s not changing her approach.

What’s Behind Caitlin Clark’s Shooting Struggles This Season?

In the 2025 WNBA season, Clark has played in 12 of her team’s 21 regular-season games and is averaging 16.7 points while shooting 37.4% from the field and 28.9% from 3-point range.

Last season, she averaged 19.2 points, 41.7% FG%, and 34.4% from beyond the arc. Following the Indiana Fever’s 102-83 victory over the Dallas Wings, Clark opened up about how she’s dealing with her shooting slump and mental state during this challenging phase.

Speaking about her slump after the win over the Wings on Sunday, Clark said, “I’m not a very patient person, that’s what’s been frustrating for me, my shot feels really good and I feel like it’s right there. So it’s like, come on, when am I going to have one of those [high FG%] games? And I know it’s coming.”

Clark also addressed the challenges that she has been facing in an injury-riddled season, “Just being so in and out of the lineup, and some inconsistencies, really challenged me mentally, and I know this is all going to certainly pay off at some point… So, just trying to deal with it that way.”

The shooting struggles come amid a season disrupted by injuries. In June, the Fever star was out of action for five games due to a left quad injury. After returning to the court for a few games, Clark missed five more games due to a left groin injury.

Despite the setbacks, Clark remains confident in her mechanics and approach. “I don’t think it’s anything mechanically or [that there’s] something wrong with my shot,” the Fever star added. “It’s just basketball. Our player development coach sent me a few things, of like even Steph [Curry] going through a slump. I think he was like 27 for his last 70 or something like that. The best in the world go through it. The thing I always fall back on is, I know how hard I’ve worked, so this isn’t something that’s going to last…I’m never gonna stop shooting until I break out of it. I am still confident in everything that I can do.”

Over her last five games, Clark has been shooting just 31.1% from the field and 17.1% from 3-point range. She is averaging 12.2 points, 9.4 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.2 steals during this period.

While Clark’s shooting numbers have come down from last season, she has improved with her assists average, going from 8.4 to 9.0 APG. This season, she has also improved her steals numbers from 1.3 to 1.7 SPG.

Clark’s slump continued on Sunday, as she scored just 13 points on 4-12 shooting (33.3%) and 2-7 from beyond the arc (28.57%).

However, she made up for it with her 14 assists and career-high-tying five steals. She will be hoping to break her shooting slump when the Indiana Fever take on the bottom-placed Connecticut Sun on Tuesday.
