Carlos Alcaraz’s Gracious Words After Defeat

Alcaraz started the match well but Sinner fought back to bag his first win over the Spaniard since late 2023 and clinch his fourth Grand Slam singles title. He also foiled Alcaraz’s plans to win a hat-trick of titles at the grass-court Major and become the first Italian to win the singles title at the tournament.

Alcaraz spoke with class and respect in his runner-up speech, lauding Jannik Sinner.

“It’s difficult to lose, it’s always difficult to lose, even if it’s in the finals but first of all, I just have to congratulate Jannik once again,” the Spaniard said. “Congratulations to you every week. It’s a really well deserved trophy, unbelievable two weeks here in London for you, playing great tennis, for your team as well.”

Alcaraz also spoke about Sinner’s family and friends flew to watch the final, saying:

“I know a lot of family and friends flew up to watch you here in the finals. So it’s an amazing team around you, really happy for you.”

Alcaraz had entered the Wimbledon final on a 24-match winning streak. The last person to beat him at Wimbledon was actually Sinner himself, in the fourth round of the 2022 edition.

Alcaraz also spoke about his relationship with the Italian off the court, stating:

“Really happy to be able to build a really good relationship off the court, but then a great rivalry on the court that made me even improve every day.”

The Thrilling Final Between Alcaraz and Sinner

This Wimbledon final was the second straight Grand Slam title clash between Alcaraz and Sinner. Just five weeks earlier, Alcaraz had beaten Sinner in an epic French Open final that lasted 5 hours and 29 minutes after coming back from two sets down. The 2025 Wimbledon final, however, was different, as Sinner lost the first set but did well to take the next three.

For Alcaraz, this loss was his first in a Grand Slam final after winning his first five major title clashes. However, the Spaniard still leads 8-5 in his head-to-head with Sinner.
