Najee Harris suffered a freak injury due to an incident that took place on the 4th of July. There seemed to be some sort of fireworks accident as the former Pittsburgh Steelers running back was nearing his first training camp with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Most details have been kept a secret, as the full extent of the injury remains unknown. This NFL analyst shared his honest opinion and his concerns based on what he has heard from his sources.
Insider Breaks Down Potential Aftermath of Najee Harris’ Injury
Mike Florio had a lot to say regarding Harris’s injury, with key words being used towards the end of his video. All that is known about the injury is what his agent said: “A fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees,” which confirmed a “superficial eye injury” to Harris. Florio wasn’t entirely sure what that meant, exactly, but he pointed out that we will be in the know very soon.
Statement from agent Doug Hendrickson on his client Chargers RB Najee Harris: “Najee Harris was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees. Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident, but is fully expected…

“We don’t know what happened, we don’t know if he’s injured, but we know this: players report to training camp next week,” Florio said. “He’ll have a physical, and we’ll find out if he’s healthy. I don’t know what a superficial eye injury is. Any injury to the eyeball would not seem, to me, to be superficial. But we’ll find out.”
He spoke about Harris’s upcoming physical, which could place him on the non-football injury list. Florio didn’t want to take the statement out of context, but he believes there’s a strong chance Harris could be ready for the regular season, but won’t be participating in training camp.
Florio continued, “I heard this from a couple of different sources. This didn’t come from the statement; this didn’t come from the agent. From other people in the know, I think that there may be some potential liability concerns in play here that may have prompted people to be very careful about what they said early on… We’re only as good as the information we get, and unless we were there, we don’t know what the h*** happened.”
At the end of the day, the truth will come out. This appears to be a freak accident, as Harris was trying to enjoy the holiday with, potentially, his friends and family. There haven’t been any major reports that his season is in jeopardy, which is an excellent sign for the Chargers, who just signed him to a $5.25 million deal.
Harris only signed a one-year deal with the Chargers after the Steelers decided to part ways with the Pro Bowler. In his four seasons on the team, Harris rushed for 1,000+ yards in each of them. He hasn’t had a season with fewer than six touchdowns, as he’s played in all 17 games in each of those four seasons.
