Jannik Sinner Advances As Novak Djokovic Battles Injury in Semifinal Showdown

Djokovic had been chasing a record 25th Grand Slam title this year at the All England Club, where he has already won seven titles. His bid looked firm in the early rounds, as he defeated Alexandre Müller, Dan Evans, Miomir Kecmanović, 11th seed Alex de Minaur, and 22nd seed Flavio Cobolli.

But the tide turned in his quarterfinal match against Cobolli, when a difficult fall left Djokovic struggling. That injury carried over into his semifinal battle with Sinner, which eventually affected his mobility and agility.

The highly anticipated semifinal of the 2025 Wimbledon Championships was a straight-sets affair, with Sinner beating Djokovic 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 to qualify for his first final at the All England Club. His movement appeared compromised throughout the semifinal, making it difficult for him to mount any significant resistance against the Italian.

Talking to the media following the match, Djokovic spoke about a sincere exchange at the net following the end of the game. “He [Sinner] apologized for me feeling bad today,” Djokovic told reporters. “There’s nothing to apologize for from his side. Obviously, he’s done very well for himself today, and for the last year and a half, he’s been the best player in the world.”

Djokovic also wished good luck to Sinner before his first Wimbledon final, saying, “He’s gonna have a chance to win his first Wimbledon title. I wished him luck, it’s gonna be his first final here, and I’m sure he’s going to be super pumped. After the finals they played in Paris, I think the anticipation for this final is big. It’s amazing. They’re definitely several levels above everyone right now.”

Sinner Overcomes Injury Scare to Set Up Wimbledon Final Showdown

Sinner’s journey to the Wimbledon final has included both dominant performances and tense moments, including a fall in his fourth-round match against Grigor Dimitrov that briefly raised concerns about a potential injury. But the 23-year-old put fans and the media at ease, confirming on Friday that he was “feeling good” and wasn’t concerned about any significant fitness issues going into Sunday’s final against Carlos Alcaraz.

This will be Sinner’s 13th match against the Spaniard on the ATP Tour. It is a rematch of their 2025 French Open final, which Alcaraz won in five sets.
