It’s been a broken record for the Buffalo Bills against the rival Kansas City Chiefs, who have defeated them in four consecutive playoff matchups.
Perhaps the Bills’ most painful defeat was the 2021 AFC Divisional Round Game, in which the Chiefs won in a thrilling overtime contest after winning the opening coin toss. This led to a key rule change for future playoff overtime games.
Since then, the Chiefs have beaten the Bills in the AFC Divisional Round Game and the AFC Championship Game. But in the mind of former Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, the 2025 NFL season will be the one that Buffalo breaks through
Former Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick Believes That Buffalo Will Break Through This Season
Former Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who spent four seasons playing with Buffalo during his 17-year NFL career, believes the Bills are building something special for this season and that they can get through the “pesky” Chiefs this time.
“Josh is such a great leader, and I think what you’ve seen over the last few years, especially, this is his team, and this team has taken on his personality.”
“They have something really special going on in Buffalo right now, and it’s those pesky Chiefs,” Fitzpatrick said on Good Morning Football. “I think this is our year, baby. This is our year to get over those Chiefs in the playoffs and do it, because they’ve been so close and there’s a lot of enthusiasm around them.”
“MVP now Josh is a really special player.”

Allen, who recently married pop star Hailee Steinfeld, was voted the NFL MVP for the 2024 season, beating out Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson among other candidates.
He also became the first Bills player to win the award since Thurman Thomas did so in 1991 and the first Bills quarterback in franchise history to earn it.
The Bills have put together double-digit victory seasons in each of the last six years, with their best season finishes featuring 13-3 records in the 2020 and 2022 seasons, along with a 13-4 mark in 2024.
Since Buffalo’s return to the upper echelons of the NFL, it’s been the Chiefs who have proven to be their kryptonite and have prevented them from a return trip to what would be the franchise’s first Super Bowl appearance since 1994 in Super Bowl XXVIII against the Dallas Cowboys.
Allen will hope to end his losing streak against the Chiefs in the playoffs this upcoming season as he continues to build on a potential Hall of Fame career.
