The Winnipeg Jets have been trying many things to continue their playoff run. They managed to emerge at the top of the table in the Central Division, but their performances in the playoffs against the Dallas Stars have been questionable at best.
Since then, they have been stuck trying to transition between their current team while also trying to bring some of the big names together. One such name that pops up is center Jonathan Toews.
The former three-time Stanley Cup Champion is back in the league with the Jets, and Patrick Kane has something to say about his former teammate and captain.
Patrick Kane Is Happy That Jonathan Toews Is Getting To End His Career on His Terms
Kane and Toews were both part of the Blackhawks dynasty that won three Stanley Cups between 2010-15. And Kane got his first Conn Smythe Trophy in 2013 under Toews’ captaincy, who led them from 2008 till his exit in 2023.
While Toews left Chicago due to a mixture of health issues and team rebuilding, he is finally getting the chance to play for his hometown in Winnipeg. And on the latest episode of the Carmen and Jurko Podcast, Kane was asked if he has since spoken to him about this.

To this, Kane mentioned, “No, for sure. I was thinking about that too, like he’s going to have uh an unbelievable reception and ovation when he comes back.” Kane, who himself made an exit from the Blackhawks post a hip injury and then returned for the Detroit Red Wings, remains hopeful for Toews.
He mentions how a couple of years ago, both of them would’ve replied that they would remain in Chicago for life, but things have since changed. For the Jets, too, Toews could bring the maturity and the veteran experience that the front line has been lacking.
With him being at the helm of the Blackhawks with one Conn Smythe Trophy (2010) and a Mark Messier Leadership Award, his presence cannot be overlooked. Beyond his captaincy, he has also been a talismanic forward for the Blackhawks.
With 883 points across 1,067 games, he has been one of the main reasons behind Chicago’s dominance in the early 2010s. Kane further mentioned, “It’s cool to get some different experiences and play different franchises and see what else is out there a little bit. So, I’m happy he’s coming back.”
Kane is happy that Toews will get to be part of a good team in the form of Winnipeg. Not to mention, Winnipeg is also Toews’ hometown, so it is expected that the former captain will get his due praise at his return.
