Super Bowl Contender Floated As Landing Spot for Terry McLaurin As Commanders WR’s Contract Standoff Intensifies

Terry McLaurin is reportedly unhappy with Washington's contract extension talks while a new potential trade destination emerges.

Terry McLaurin delivered everything the Washington Commanders could want in 2024-25. The veteran wide receiver posted 82 receptions, 1,096 yards, and a career-high 13 touchdowns while serving as rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels’ favorite target.

McLaurin played like a star and helped guide the Commanders to an unexpected NFC Championship berth. However, tensions between McLaurin and the organization are heating up as the training camp approaches.

ESPN Insider Reveals Terry McLaurin ‘Not Happy’ With Commanders Contract Talks

At 29, McLaurin wants respect as much as recognition. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the receiver is “not happy” with how contract extension talks have progressed. Adam Schefter explained that Washington hasn’t made any moves.

Sometimes silence says everything. McLaurin’s frustration became impossible to ignore when he skipped mandatory offseason practices.

His frustration makes complete sense. Wide receiver salaries have exploded across the NFL. Despite his elite production, McLaurin isn’t among the eight receivers earning $30 million or more annually.

He’s set to make $15.5 million in base salary as he enters the final year of his current deal. For someone who just led his team’s offense and finished second in the league in touchdown catches, that figure feels outdated in today’s market.

Washington has the resources to fix this situation. The team has $21.6 million in cap space and benefits from having its quarterback locked into a cheap rookie contract. This creates the perfect window to build something special.

However, if they don’t act quickly to secure McLaurin, the relationship damage might be irreversible, leaving a trade as the only solution.

Could the Buffalo Bills Be McLaurin’s Next Destination?

Enter the Buffalo Bills.

Buffalo doesn’t typically find itself in significant trade discussions, but this scenario makes sense. After losing Stefon Diggs, the Bills desperately need a true No. 1 receiver to compete in the AFC.

Even Josh Allen, one of the league’s elite quarterbacks, can only do so much with a thin receiving corps. Khalil Shakir led the team with just over 800 yards last season. Solid production, but not nearly enough.

McLaurin could be the missing piece Buffalo needs.

His toughness, reliability, and field-stretching ability would give Allen exactly what he needs. McLaurin would provide a dependable target in clutch moments. Buffalo doesn’t have much cap flexibility right now, but they could make the numbers work with some roster moves. It might be worth the investment if landing him costs a first-round pick.

McLaurin’s future in Washington remains up in the air. One thing is clear: if the Commanders can’t keep him happy, plenty of teams are ready to roll out the red carpet for his services.
