For years, Tim Tebow dreamed of finding the right person to start a family with. Now, after a storied football career and years of searching, the former NFL quarterback has reached the milestone he always wanted. Tebow and his wife, Demi-Leigh Tebow, welcomed their first child, daughter Daphne Reign, on July 6, 2025.
The arrival comes five years and six months after the couple tied the knot on January 20, 2020..
What Makes Daphne Reign’s Name So Special to Tim and Demi-Leigh Tebow?
The former Denver Broncos quarterback and former Miss Universe first met at one of Tebow’s Night to Shine charity events. Since that initial meeting, the couple has worked together on numerous charitable events, building a relationship rooted in shared values.
For the former Florida Gator, finding love took time. However, the 37-year-old was never afraid to speak about his journey for love. Before meeting his future wife, Tebow told PEOPLE about his desire to find “the right person.”
“I’m looking, but I just can’t seem to find anyone,” Tebow said. “I don’t want to be single; I’m ready to settle down and start a family. I want to have kids. I have so many things I want … No one will be happier than me when I finally find the right person.”
Just under a decade later, Tebow continues to check off his former self’s boxes. With Daphne Reign forever changing the lives of her parents, the couple put deep thought into selecting their daughter’s name.

In her Instagram post, Demi-Leigh revealed just how meaningful the name Daphne Reign is to her and Tebow. The former Miss Universe opened up about her family history and the spiritual significance behind their daughter’s name.
“Daphne is a name that’s been close to my heart since I was a little girl,” Demi-Leigh wrote. “I never got to meet my mom’s mother, but her sister, Daphne, stepped in as a grandma figure to me.
“She was so special to my mom and I, a tiny, kind and strong South African woman who always had shortbread in the house, was the epitome of grit and grace, loved Jesus, had the voice of an angel and made everyone feel seen and special,” Demi-Leigh wrote.
“I used to tell my mom, ‘I want to be just like Ouma Daphne one day.’ I’ve loved this name since I was a little girl and for as long as I can remember I always said that if I ever get blessed with a daughter, I’ll name her Daphne. Shortly after Tim and I got married, I shared that desire with him, and thankfully he loved the name just as much as I did!
“And Reign… it’s a name that holds so much meaning,” Demi-Leigh wrote. “It’s inspired by a precious little girl Tim and I have loved deeply for years. Her story has shaped our hearts in ways I can’t even begin to explain. But more than anything, her name reminds us that when you’re adopted into God’s family, you become a child of the King. You were made to rule and reign, not in power, but in purpose, love, and identity.”
Following a gender reveal in early March 2025, Tim and Demi-Leigh could not contain their excitement about becoming parents. Now that their daughter has arrived, the couple is thrilled to begin this new chapter.
“Our greatest blessing. We’ve been praying for her long before we knew her, and we’re beyond grateful that God chose us to be her parents. We can’t wait to meet you, baby girl!” Tim and Demi-Leigh posted on Instagram.
From the football field to the commentator’s booth to his newborn baby’s bedroom, Tebow continues his journey in life with a new set of responsibilities as a father.
