Emma Raducanu’s future with Andy Murray’s former coach, Mark Petchey, came under scrutiny following her third-round exit at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. However, the Brit recently revealed that they’ve yet to discuss the possibility of continuing their partnership.
Raducanu has worked with several coaches in her young career, including notable names such as Nigel Sears, Andrew Richardson, Dmitry Tursunov, Nick Cavaday, and others. The 22-year-old added renowned English commentator and former player Mark Petchey to her team in an informal capacity during the Miami Open in March. Notably, Petchey began working with Raducanu while fulfilling his broadcasting duties.
Emma Raducanu Opens Up on the Prospects of Her Partnership With Mark Petchey
The 2021 US Open champion had Petchey in her corner during her recent run at the SW19. After reaching the third round, she fell to the top seed Aryna Sabalenka 6-7(8), 4-6, ending her hopes for a second Grand Slam title.
During her post-match press conference, Raducanu was asked if she was thinking of working with the 54-year-old in the future. The Brit said she was grateful that Petchey agreed to work with her at Wimbledon despite his commentating commitments.
“Yeah, it’s very difficult, he obviously has his commentating commitments and he agreed to kind of help me until the end of Wimbledon and then we see from there. Because he gave up some work to work with me here,” she said.
“Which I really appreciate and I’m grateful for. And that’s a conversation that we need to have after a few days and the dust settles a little bit,” she added.
Before teaming up with Petchey, the Brit also completed a two-week training stint with Vladimir Platenik. Petchey had coached three-time Major champion Andy Murray for 10 months before their partnership concluded in April 2006.
Raducanu Exited Wimbledon After a Close 3R Match Against Aryna Sabalenka
The earlier scoreline reflects the strong fight Raducanu put up in the third round to keep her hopes alive, though she ultimately couldn’t overcome Sabalenka’s formidable challenge.
The Belarusian trailed by a break in both sets but managed to claw her way back each time. Moreover, she survived a set point in the first-set tiebreak and was just one point from trailing 5-1 in the second set. This was notably the first encounter between the two, with Sabalenka now leading 1-0 in their head-to-head.
Raducanu’s third-round exit marked a step back from her fourth-round finish at Wimbledon last year. Sabalenka, meanwhile, missed the Major in 2024 due to injury and will next face No. 24 seed Elise Mertens in the fourth round on Sunday.
