7x Pro Bowler Outlines How “Soft A**” NFL Rules Helped Patrick Mahomes Embarrass 49ers Defenders

Patrick Mahomes showed off his skills while rushing by the 49ers' D. However, one seven-time Pro Bowler believes the Chiefs QB was aided by NFL rules.

Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 6-0 record after defeating their two-time Super Bowl rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, on Sunday.

However, Dwight Freeney believes the modern rules helped Mahomes embarrass the entire 49ers backline. The seven-time Pro Bowler isn’t afraid to speak his mind on the changing aspects of the NFL rules as well.

Dwight Freeney Calls Out the NFL Rules and the Niners’ Defense After Being Humiliated by Patrick Mahomes

On Monday, the former Indianapolis Colts stud was discussing one particular incident from Sunday night’s game. The Chiefs won the competition 28-21, however, Freeney focused on the moment when Mahomes dodged several defenders at the sideline for a massive run. He shared his insights on the Up and Adams Show.

“Let me tell you something,” said Freeney. “This play should have never happened. Now, this is 100% a product of a couple of things. One, you can’t touch quarterbacks. Everybody’s scared to hit a quarterback these days.”

Freeney highlighted the mindset of the Niners’ defenders during the play as he said, “He’s going to run out of bounds. We don’t want to get a penalty. Let me just tiptoe over there and he’s going to run out of bounds and Patrick took advantage of the soft a** rules they have for the quarterbacks.”

The Hall of Famer further added that the defenders were lazy and did not give it their all from the start of the play.

Patrick Mahomes Could Get Another Weapon in His Arsenal

The Chiefs are flying high with an unbeaten record of 6-0. However, NFL analyst Mike Greenberg predicts that before November 5, the Chiefs will add another wide receiver to their roster. On ESPN’s Get Up, the analyst stated that this WR would not be a big-name addition.

“They will get a wide receiver before the trade deadline,” said Greenberg. “It won’t be one of the big names. They won’t do what the Jets do and go out and get Davante Adams. They’ll get someone like Kadarius Toney or Mecole Hardman, as they did each of the last two years, who, oh, by the way, wound up helping them win the Super Bowl in both of those cases.”

The Chiefs will play two more games before the trade deadline. On October 27, they’ll be hosted by their division rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders. Their Week 9 battle will be November 4 at Arrowhead in front of their home crowd against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
