Zion Williamson’s appearance during a recent media day interview for the New Orleans Pelicans caught the NBA community off guard. Although he has been sidelined for several stretches of his career, fans are quick to forget that Williamson was selected with the first pick of the 2019 NBA Draft and was viewed as a generational talent.
After all, few players in NBA history, if any, possess a frame similar to Williamson’s or have comparable explosive and athletic abilities. When healthy, Williamson can be viewed as one of the most unstoppable young players in the league.
His weight issues have reportedly played a huge role in hampering his career. Although it might be too soon to tell for certain, Pelicans fans feel positive after noticing a change in his physique.
Fans React to Zion Williamson’s Physical Transformation
Williamson is listed at 6’6″ and weighs 284 pounds. His large frame puts an unimaginable amount of stress on his feet, resulting in multiple lower-body injuries so far in his career. It was soon noticed that Williamson had put in the work this offseason to reduce his weight and improve his conditioning, with fans calling him”Skinny Zion.”

Based on the picture, it is clear that Williamson has cut down on a significant amount of body fat. Both his face and arms look much leaner, prompting some fans to express their belief in him heading into next season: “Skinny Zion about to terrorize the league.”

Some commented that the 25-year-old NBA star appears to be aging drastically, “Bro why does he look like hes 34.” This could be due to the fact that Williamson was trying out a new look with a goatee.

Most fans were unconvinced by his physical transformation and expressed their frustrations over having their expectations crushed season after season, “We say this every offseason. And every season he gets injured, regardless. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.”

While the majority of fans may have felt skeptical upon hearing about his transformation, some voiced hope that things could turn out differently this time: “Hope he keep his head in the gym and on that court instead of chasing skeezers and a buffet.”

At this point, Williamson appears truly committed to improving himself and staying healthy. He has missed three full seasons’ worth of games so far in his career. As a result, the Pelicans have never been able to make a significant push into the postseason since he joined the team.
Pelicans fans are left hoping he can maintain his current physique and stay healthy to help the team through the 2025-2026 NBA season.
