The Sacramento Kings’ season has gone from bad to worse, and their fan base is feeling it. The team currently has a 6-20 record and sits in 13th place in the Western Conference. Sacramento is struggling to find momentum while dealing with a wave of injuries across the roster.
Now, another major blow has arrived, as a new update on Zach LaVine’s status has added to the Kings’ growing concerns.
NBA Insider Unveils Latest on Zach LaVine
NBA insider Marc J. Spears reported that LaVine has officially been listed as out on the Kings’ injury report.
According to the update by Spears, LaVine is dealing with a moderate left ankle sprain, an injury he suffered on Dec. 14. There is currently no confirmed return date. However, it has been shared that LaVine will be re-evaluated in one week.

LaVine picked up the injury during Sunday’s matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Midway through the second quarter, he drove hard into the lane and finished a flip shot while drawing contact, converting the three-point play. However, the landing proved costly.
LaVine came down awkwardly on his left foot and immediately appeared uncomfortable. Despite the pain, he stayed on the floor for a few minutes and moved cautiously before being taken out of the game. He later headed to the locker room for further evaluation and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest.
Before exiting, LaVine scored 10 points and grabbed one rebound, but his absence was felt as the game progressed. Sacramento opened the Dec. 14 game on a positive note, building a seven-point lead after the first quarter.
However, their momentum faded in the second period. The Kings entered halftime with just a one-point lead. The second half told a very different story, as Minnesota took full control, scoring 66 points after halftime and eventually defeating Sacramento.
From a season perspective, LaVine has been one of the more consistent contributors for the Kings, averaging 20.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. The Timberwolves game marked his return after missing a previous matchup against the Denver Nuggets due to a right thumb issue, making the ankle injury even more frustrating for both LaVine and the team.
Unfortunately for Sacramento, LaVine is not the only key player sidelined.
The Kings have been without Domantas Sabonis for nearly a month after he suffered a partially torn meniscus in his left knee. Additionally, Drew Eubanks is also out after breaking his left thumb in the game against Denver.
At this point, Russell Westbrook is expected to see more minutes and take on a larger role as both a playmaker and scorer while LaVine recovers.
