Victor Wembanyama’s Game 2 Pump Fake on Mitchell Robinson Sparks Buzz

Wembanyama caught flak for his shot selection in San Antonio’s 105-95 Game 1 home loss after going 6-for-21 overall (28.6%), including 2-for-9 from 3-point range (22.2%), with many feeling he settled for jumpers.

The 7-foot-4 French phenom was much more reserved in the first half of Game 2, attempting only 4 field goals, with the commentators highlighting his lack of aggression. Still, Wembanyama got the best of Robinson to end the first quarter.

With the Spurs leading 32-25, Wembanyama caught the ball at the top of the arc, faked a 3, and drove straight to the basket for an easy finish. His fake-out sent Robinson stumbling and falling to one knee as he attempted to close out, with the play going viral on X.

“Victor Wembanyama just made Mitchell Robinson drop to his knees. Nasty,” Legion Hoops reacted.

“Victor Wembanyama had Mitchell Robinson on one knee proposing 😭💀,” Hater Report quipped.

“That’s the version of Wemby San Antonio needs!” Spurs reporter Dusty Garza exclaimed.

“Wemby just broke Mitchell Robinson’s ankles 😭😭🔥,” one user wrote.

“Wemby puts Mitch Robinson on the ground … yikes,” NFL insider John Frascella weighed in.

“Mitchell Robinson was tying Wemby’s shoes,” another joked.

Meanwhile, some questioned why Wembanyama doesn’t look to attack the rim more frequently.

“Thank you, Wemby! Attack Mitchell Robinson off the dribble. It’s not rocket science, attack the matchups when you have the advantage,” one observer implored.

While San Antonio implemented more ball pressure and crowded the lanes in the first half, New York overcame a 12-point deficit to take a 56-52 advantage heading into halftime.

Knicks star big man Karl-Anthony Towns led all first-half scorers with 17 points to go along with 7 rebounds, getting the best of Wembanyama, who mustered only 7 points and 5 rebounds.
