Anthony Davis and Trae Young’s latest injury update is good news for Washington Wizards fans, but the duo won’t be making their debuts anytime soon. The Wizards’ officials released a statement providing the latest medical assessments of both their marquee stars after their move to the Eastern Conference ahead of the 2026 trade deadline.
Anthony Davis and Trae Young’s Return Timeline is Yet to be Announced
In their statement on X, Wizards officials said, “Young, who has been sidelined by a right knee MCL sprain and quad contusion, was reevaluated following the All-Star break and has progressed positively. He will ramp up his on-court activities, and further updates will be provided in a week.”
On Davis, the statement said: Davis, who is out with ligament damage in his left hand, was reevaluated by Dr. Steven Shin of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and is progressing as expected. Davis has not been cleared for basketball activity. Davis will be reevaluated in two weeks, and further updates will be provided as appropriate.
This suggests that Young might be on track to make his debut for his new team at some point before the end of the regular season. He last played on Dec. 27, when he was still with the Atlanta Hawks.
The Wizards traded for Young, signaling their intent to compete in the upcoming season. They acquired the All-Star guard by sending CJ McCollum and wing Corey Kispert to the Hawks. Young played just 10 games this season, averaging 19.3 points and 8.9 assists.
Anthony Davis was perhaps the most blockbuster acquisition for the side that has been in rebuild for a few years now. The multiplayer trade saw Davis head to DC with Jaden Hardy, D’Angelo Russell, and Dante Exum for AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Khris Middleton, and Marvin Bagley III. Two first-round picks and three second-round picks completed the deal.
The former Mavericks star was averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 20 games before the move.

Per The Athletic, Wizards head coach Brian Keefe said the process was key. “You just follow the process. That’s what we always do: Just stick to that. Obviously, we’re going to reevaluate Trae in one week (and Anthony here in two weeks. But I just go day by day. Those are the things I focus on.”
With just 28 games left in the season, it is unclear whether Davis will lace up at any point this season. In the meantime, the Wizards were off to a winning start upon their return to action after the All-Star break. They recorded their 15th win of the season, getting past the bottom-placed Indiana Pacers 112-105 at home.
