The Miami Heat will be without the services of star guard Tyler Herro for the start of their 2025-26 NBA season. The mercurial guard is expected to miss the start of the upcoming season.
Herro will be one of the key names for the Heat this season, along with Andrew Wiggins and Bam Adebayo. However, his absence will be a dent to a Miami team that came off a 4-0 drubbing by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs this past season.

How Long Will Tyler Herro Be Sidelined With Injury?
Earlier, ESPN and NBA insider Shams Charania dropped a major injury update on Herro. Taking to X, Charania wrote, “Miami Heat All-Star Tyler Herro is undergoing surgery on his left foot and will be sidelined to begin the 2025-26 season, sources tell ESPN,” he said.
In a follow-up tweet, Charania added more details on the injury. “Herro suffered an ankle injury in an offseason workout that led to the decision for surgery, sources said.”

The Miami Herald offered more on the latest. Per the report, the 25-year-old experienced discomfort in his left ankle during his offseason workouts. Herro was administered latelet-rich plasma and cortisone injections to avoid going under the knife, but the surgery was later looked at as a necessary option.
There is no official timetable listed for his return, though the timeline is expected once his procedure is completed on Friday.
The Heat will miss Herro’s offense as he ended his sixth year in the league with career highs in points and assists. He ended with 23.9 points and 5.5 assists per game, while shooting 47.2% from the field and 37.5% on the deep in 77 games.
Miami Will Need Others to Step Up to Navigate Herro’s Absence
His absence sees the Heat turn to offseason acquisition Norman Powell, who had a solid season with the Los Angeles Clippers. Powell averaged 21.8 points last season and will likely see more minutes while Herro recovers.
Herro and Adebayo have been considered the Heat’s cornerstones after Jimmy Butler’s trade to the Golden State Warriors ahead of the trade deadline in February. With the guard missing the first few games of the season, the offense will have to run through Adebayo, Powell, and Wiggins.
To add to the challenge of playing without Herro, Miami will also have to break their image of being slow starters to the season. They have been playoff contenders, but have yet to translate that to a deep run.
