OG Anunoby is dealing with an unexpected injury, prompting the New York Knicks fan base to consider potential repercussions that could impact the team’s success. After acquiring Jalen Brunson a few seasons ago, the Knicks have established themselves as consistent postseason contenders.
Although many hoped that their decision to trade for Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors would help the team make it out of the Eastern Conference, the Knicks ended up losing to the Indiana Pacers for the second year in a row, a disappointing outcome to say the least.
Heading into the ongoing 2025-2026 NBA season, the Knicks have done quite well and hold an 8-4 record. However, Anunoby’s recent injury update is a cause for concern.
How Does OG Anunoby’s Injury Hurt the New York Knicks?
Given that the Knicks currently hold the second-best record in the Eastern Conference, fans hope Anunoby’s recent hamstring injury does not diminish the team’s momentum. An argument could be made that Anunoby is the best wing defender for the Knicks, meaning that his injury will hurt the team.
According to senior NBA Insider Shams Charania, Anunoby is dealing with a hamstring strain on his left leg and will be reevaluated in a couple of weeks.
“New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby will be re-evaluated in two weeks due to a left hamstring strain, sources tell ESPN.”

In 12 appearances for the Knicks before his hamstring injury, Anunoby averaged a decent 15.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.9 steals on 47.6% shooting from the field. While the Knicks might have still found a way to maintain momentum without Anunoby, the fact remains that Brunson is dealing with an ankle injury of his own.
Missing two key players on their roster means that the Knicks will struggle to secure wins and improve their record in their upcoming matchups against the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks, a set of games that they would have been expected to win if Anunoby and Brunson were completely healthy.
Anunoby sustained his hamstring injury in the initial stages of a recent game against the Heat. He played just five minutes, recording two points and three rebounds. Thankfully, his injury did not stop the Knicks from securing a win over the Heat in their NBA Cup group stage matchup.
Considering that Anunoby is expected to be reevaluated in two weeks, it is safe to predict that he will miss around three weeks of action to recover from his current hamstring injury fully. Fans are left hoping that Anunoby and Brunson will recover quickly to rejoin their team.
