When the Milwaukee Bucks were eliminated in the first round of the 2024–25 playoffs, Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors began to heat up. It was fueled by his frustration over the team’s inability to build a contender around him.
The rumor mill continued to churn all year and while Milwaukee opted to keep Antetokounmpo through the February trade deadline, those talks are expected to pick up once again this offseason. Now, Antetokounmpo just made a recent comment that has reignited the rumors and excited Miami Heat fans.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Shows Love to Miami
During a recent appearance on Goran Dragić’s podcast, Antetokounmpo spoke about loyalty and emphasized how difficult it is to walk away from a city you have represented for so many years.
“You know how I am. We are loyal. We are loyal people,” he said. “When people believe in us and people help us and make us stand on our feet, it’s very hard for you to turn your back. But at the same time, you’re competitive. You want to win,” Antetokounmpo said. “Everybody wants to win. So, you got to make the best decision for yourself. That’s pretty much it.”
Moments later, when Antetokounmpo was asked about playing in a warm climate and whether it would him from a recovery standpoint, he mentioned Miami unprompted.
“Hey, Miami’s not a bad place, man. Beautiful, beautiful city, beautiful city,” he said. “Beautiful city, believe it or not, believe it or not.”
Giannis guested on the debut episode of @Goran_Dragic ‘s podcast:
Goran: “Can I say something? You’re 31 years old, so you need to think about your knees, you know, to be loose. So you need warm climate, man.”
Giannis: “Hey, Miami’s not a bad place, man. Beautiful, beautiful… pic.twitter.com/i7nyBBXHDi

Later in the podcast, he was asked whether he prefers Miami or Los Angeles as a vacation. Antetokounmpo didn’t hesitate.
“Miami. Miami. Miami. I think LA is super superficial,” Antetokounmpo said. “I don’t like… I don’t like LA.”
How Did Heat Fans React to Antetokounmpo’s Comments?
Dragić spent 15 seasons in the NBA, but his stint in Miami stood out as some of the best of his career. He played seven seasons with the Heat and also earned an All-Star selection.
Naturally, Heat fans celebrated Antetokounmpo’s comments and showed love to Dragić for seemingly doing some recruiting on the Heat’s behalf even though he’s a podcast mic.
“Dragic out here recruiting Giannis to the Heat,” wrote one Heat influencer.
Meawhile, a page named Heat Diehards wrote, “Goran Dragic forever a HEAT lifer lol.”

When you go back and watch the clip, Dragić didn’t mention Miami specifically, but it seems he knew what he was doing in asking the question. Still, it’s interesting that Antetokounmpo is the one who brought Miami into the conversation.
“Goran didn’t even say Miami, Giannis brought it up… He is so here, and we are so back!” wrote a Miami Heat fan page.

Still, not everyone is buying into the hype. One NBA content creator urged the fans to slow down the speculation. Their point was that just because Antetokounmpo praised a city, it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s planning a move.
“It’s true. It’s even more beautiful if you’re rich. Playing for the team situated there is another story…. Speaking about a city doesn’t mean you want to play for that city’s franchise. I wish we’d leave these inferences behind,” the influencer wrote.

One user took a more direct and slightly frustrated tone. He called out Antetokounmpo for continually fueling the rumor mill.
“yeah this sh*t is getting ridiculous now he can actually just shut up,” wrote the user.

Whether this amounts to anything serious in the future remains to be seen. Whatever the case may be, Antetokounmpo’s future will still be a talking point this summer until he makes a lasting statement or a trade comes to fruition.
