Golden State Warriors superstar point guard Stephen Curry further welcomed his on-court rival, LeBron James, to the golf world on Wednesday. Curry’s latest welcome message came after he humorously imitated the Los Angeles Lakers icon’s viral golf swing.
Curry is a long-time golf fanatic, having taken up the hobby at age 10. Since playing the sport in high school, the two-time NBA MVP has continued refining his expertise during his downtime, regularly competing in celebrity golf tournaments. This includes his standout performance in 2023, when he won the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
As for James, he recently tried his hand at golf, setting the stage for Curry to playfully poke fun at his 2024 Paris Olympic co-star’s novice skill set.

On Friday, James posted footage on Instagram of his self-described second day on the golf course. Decked out in a striped polo shirt, the 21-time NBA All-Star’s unorthodox form promptly made the rounds on social media, eliciting comical reactions from fans.
“Day 2 of officially trying this out! Boy o Boy it’s a mind f*ck to say the least! But I think I enjoy that part of it a lot! Haha! Got a long a*s way to go at this sport and I’ll still be some [sh*t] but hey it’s a great time out there!” James began his caption, later hinting at his desire to give golf another go in the near future.

Among the top commenters on James’ post was Curry, who embraced the 40-year-old’s foray into a new sport.
“Welcome. We’ve been waiting for you,” Curry wrote.

On Wednesday, Curry took his warm reception a step further while golfing. After amusing onlookers by re-enacting James’ driver swing follow-through, the Bay Area legend expressed excitement to watch him continue his golf journey.
“Unbelievable impersonation of my guy Bron’s follow-through in the golf swing, but we all want to welcome LeBron James to the world of golf because the game needs you, big fella,” Curry said.

It’s unclear if James would be willing to golf alongside Curry, given the gap in their experience levels. Curry previously touched on his interest in pursuing a professional golf career post-retirement, while James is seemingly just making the most of his offseason.
Regardless, the superstars, who have been competing head-to-head since 2009, hold a well-documented mutual respect for each other. Thus, Curry’s encouragement could open the door for an eventual on-course collaboration.
