Warriors Urged to Pull Off Massive Trade For $175,369,698 Star to ‘Shake Up the West’

The Golden State Warriors have struggled on offense this season, and one former NBA star thinks the team should make a bold trade for another star.

The Golden State Warriors are currently stuck in the middle of the Western Conference. After falling to the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, the team is now 16-16 on the season and in third place in the Pacific Division.

It certainly seems like the team needs to make a move or two if they plan on going on a deep run this postseason. One former NBA star revealed a bold move he believes the Warriors should make to “shake up” the West.

Paul Pierce Wants the Warriors To Trade for Anthony Davis

Stephen Curry is still playing like one of the best players in the league. The future Hall of Famer is averaging 28.9 points, 4.3 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 46.3% from the field and 38.9% from deep.

Jimmy Butler has been a solid running mate for Curry, but behind those two, the offense isn’t much to speak of. As a result, NBA legend Paul Pierce recently suggested the Warriors make a bold move and acquire Anthony Davis from the Dallas Mavericks.

Pierce mentioned that the Mavericks need more young pieces around Cooper Flagg and suggested a package from the Warriors centering around Jonathan Kuminga.

“If you can get Anthony Davis for the Golden State Warriors, that’s going to shake up the West,” Pierce explained.

Trading for Davis is easier said than done. The Mavericks would likely be fine moving on from the veteran, but his hefty contract would be tough for Golden State to fit in.

Davis is making over $54 million this season after inking a three-year deal worth $175,369,698 while still with the Los Angeles Lakers. Meanwhile, Kuminga makes just over $22 million, so other teams would almost certainly have to be involved to make a deal centered around these two work.

Warriors Could Use the Scoring, Rebounding of Davis

So far this season, Davis is averaging 20.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game. The star would help the Warriors’ already-elite defense and provide a scoring punch outside of Curry and Butler.

The offense is seemingly the only thing holding the Warriors back at this point. The team is third in net defensive rating but just 21st in net offensive rating, according to NBA Advanced Stats. The Warriors are also 22nd in rebounding percentage, which would also be helped by the addition of Davis.

The negative with Davis is his injury history. The star big man has been limited to 16 games this season after playing in just 51 contests last season. Still, it’s hard to deny how high the team’s ceiling could be with a Curry-Butler-Davis trio leading the way.
