Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr provides an update on Jonathan Kuminga's injury and when he might return to action.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr gave an update on forward Jonathan Kuminga’s injury status.

However, it’s not one that Warriors fans will want to hear, as it doesn’t answer any of the questions they have.

Steve Kerr Provides an Update Regarding Jonathan Kuminga’s Injury

Kuminga appeared to have finally found his place this season, starting in the Warriors’ first 12 games. He was relegated to the bench against the San Antonio Spurs on Nov. 12 in a game that would turn out to be his last for a while.

Toward the end of the first half of that game, Kuminga fell hard to the floor. He went to the locker room afterward and did not return. Initially, he was reported as out for the rest of the contest due to right ankle soreness. Later, it was revealed that he was dealing with knee tendinitis.

A timeline for his return has yet to be announced, but an update from Kerr paints the situation as rather bleak. According to the Warriors coach, he does not know when Kuminga is coming back, as he isn’t moving well. Kerr also noted that he does not know when the forward will be returning.

In the 12 games he started before being injured, he averaged 14.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. He’d also been scoring efficiently with shooting splits of 48.1/33.3/77.1 percent.

In the game against the Spurs where he got hurt, Kuminga played just a little over twelve minutes. He had just one field goal attempt, which he missed, but he grabbed four boards.

Aside from him, Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton are also listed as out, while Draymond Green is questionable to play against the Jazz on Monday (Nov. 24).

Horford is expected to miss at least three games due to sciatica, while Melton is still recovering from knee surgery to address a partially torn left ACL.

Aside from the injury concerns, the Warriors need to address locker room issues regarding Kuminga. According to a report, he felt like he was being used as a scapegoat when Kerr relegated him to a bench role in an attempt to find an answer to the team’s struggles.

This type of situation isn’t new, as Kuminga’s relationship with the Warriors has always been rocky. Last year, he was in the middle of the rumor mill as an asset the team wanted to trade.

This year, history repeats itself, as some expect him to be on the trade block once again as soon as he becomes eligible on Jan. 15.
