The Golden State Warriors took a gamble on Quinten Post with the 52nd pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, and not many thought he would really contribute.
Even Joe Lacob, the team owner, had his reservations. But Draymond Green spotted something unique in him from the start — an outstanding shooter, a solid defender, and a true competitor.

At the Warriors’ training camp, Green picked up on some qualities in Post that matched the team’s spirit. He pointed out Post’s outstanding shooting talent, toughness, and solid defensive skills.
At the press conference after the game, Green reflected on a conversation he had with Lacob. “I’m telling you this kid can really help us. He shoots the ball well, extremely well. He’s a good position defender and he ain’t soft at all. I know Joe was looking at me like I was crazy. During year I told he was gonna have an impact and he was in the G league”

“He made his way up here now he’s been a mainstay in the rotation and a key piece of what we’re doing. So yeah, no surprise there. But when I saw him at training camp and even before training camp. I came in to play with the guys a little bit. I used QP [Quinten Post] whenever game and I knew then I was like, oh, he can really shoot the ball. Okay. I can use it right and so no surprise to me what he’s doing,“ he added.
Lacob’s first response was one of doubt, given that Post was still figuring things out in the G League.
Head coach Steve Kerr recently said “It’s great. I mean, the thing that I look for in players, smart, tough, competitive, like, if you’re those things, obviously you gotta have some skill. You have to be able to make an impact in an NBA game, but if you’re smart, tough and competitive like QP is, then you figure it out and you find ways to thrive. And that’s what he’s doing here in his rookie year. It’s really fun to see. “
Post kicked off his basketball journey with the youth squads of Apollo Amsterdam. At 15, he started as a 6’2″ shooting guard/small forward, but in a major growth spurt, he shot up to 6’9″ in just a year.

In the 2024 NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors chose Post with the 52nd pick overall. His draft night was filled with excitement, as a series of trades eventually returned him to the Warriors. He began his career with a two-way contract, spending time with both the Warriors and their G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors. During his time in the G League, he shone brightly, averaging 18.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.2 blocks in 17 games.
