The Golden State Warriors star Jimmy Butler III’s long stint with the Miami Heat ended back in the 2024-25 NBA season when he was traded to the Warriors in a five-team trade. The Warriors have experienced a noticeable shift in their energy and identity since Butler III arrived.
The six-time NBA All-Star has played in several major NBA markets during his career, each with its own culture and personality. Yet in a recent conversation, he offered a surprisingly heartfelt perspective about the differences he has observed, hinting at one thing that sets his new home apart.
Why Jimmy Butler III Believes the Bay Offers Something Miami Does Not
In his recent exclusive interview with NBC Sports Bay Area’s “Dubs Talk” with Monte Poole and Raj Mathai, Butler explained that the Bay Area’s everyday atmosphere has left a deep impression on him.
“Everybody’s like, here in the present time,” Butler told Mathai and Poole. “You know, you’re in Miami, everybody’s down there for vacation, and then they leave, and then they come back, duh duh duh. Everybody here, [at] the games, cheering, getting coffee, walking their dog, talking to everybody, they’re living in the moment. And they won’t let that moment pass them by, which is a good thing.”
Butler went on to describe how much he values the day-to-day interactions he experiences in the Bay. He emphasized that he enjoys having a cup of coffee and engaging in great conversations with people.
“So when I get to walk around, I get to see people, and I get to talk and they’re here; they’re in the moment. ‘How are you?’ love that. I get to go to a coffee shop and sit down and have coffee, and we’re talking about whatever we’re talking about that’s in the moment. That’s being here. That’s what it is about the Bay Area everybody’s here,” Butler added.
As for his performance this season, Butler has had decent games individually in new settings. Through 21 games, he is averaging 19.5 points on 51.9% shooting from the field. He also contributed 5.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game during this stretch.
Meanwhile, the Warriors extended their win streak to two with a dominating 123-91 victory over the Chicago Bulls in Sunday’s away game. With the win, they are currently 8th seed in the Western Conference with a 13-12 record.
Next, the Warriors will host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday. The Timberwolves will look to bounce back after losing their previous match to the Phoenix Suns.
