Victor Wembanyama made his second straight NBA All-Star Game this year and was even selected as a starter for the first time in his career. However, the San Antonio Spurs star did not take part in the 2026 NBA Slam Dunk Contest during All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles.
After showing off an impressive dunk in a recent game against the Sacramento Kings, Wembanyama made it clear how he feels about possibly competing in the All-Star Dunk Contest in the future.

Victor Wembanyama Says He Will Join Dunk Contest One Day
Wembanyama showed his dunking ability on Feb. 21 against the Sacramento Kings.
In the fourth quarter, with the Spurs leading 114-101, Wembanyama received the ball at the three-point line. He drove into the paint, got past multiple defenders, and finished the play with an insane dunk.
After the game, Wembanyama spoke about the Slam Dunk Contest and gave fans something to look forward to.
“I’ll be in the dunk contest one day,” Wembanyama said.

The 7-foot French star has already become known for his unique finishing ability near the rim. His presence in future dunk contests could help bring more attention back to the event, which has seen fewer big-name players participate in recent years.
Wembanyama, meanwhile, played a big role in the success of the 2026 NBA All-Star Game. He scored 33 points while shooting 10-of-13 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. He also added 8 rebounds and 3 blocks across Team World’s two games in the new tournament-style format.
In Game 2 alone, Wembanyama scored 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting. The French sensation was relentless and excited, infusing the game with the energy the All-Star event has lacked in recent years.
Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves later admitted that Wembanyama helped set the tone with his defense and energy in transition.
Wembanyama has continued his strong play after the All-Star break. He recorded 28 points and 15 rebounds in a 139-122 win over the Kings on Feb. 21.
So far this season, he is averaging 24.3 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 42 games.
Keshad Johnson of the Miami Heat won the 2026 NBA Slam Dunk Contest by defeating San Antonio Spurs rookie Carter Bryant in the final round on Feb. 14.
With star power missing from the contest in recent years, Wembanyama’s future participation could help make the event more exciting for fans again.
Wembanyama is now focused on the second half of the regular NBA season. Spurs sit second in the West with a 40-16 record. They have lost only one of their last 10 matchups and are just 2.5 games behind the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder.
Wembanyama and the Spurs will return to action on Feb. 23 against the East-leading Detroit Pistons.
