Victor Wembanyama Injury Update: NBA Star Makes Stunning Recovery From Season-Ending Setback

The San Antonio Spurs stumbled out of the gate in the 2024-25 NBA season, winning just two of their first five games. While the young squad managed to find some rhythm midseason the journey ultimately ended in disappointment. Their playoff hopes were officially crushed on Sunday, April 6, following a 120-109 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.

But just when it seemed like Spurs fans were heading into a gloomy offseason, a surprising development has reignited hope.

    Wembanyama’s Major Injury Update

A video of Victor Wembanyama, the team’s generational talent, casually playing soccer has taken the internet by storm. The clip shows the 7’3 French phenom moving fluidly, kicking the ball with confidence, which is a sight that not only stunned fans but also sparked optimism about his return.

Wembanyama was ruled out for the season earlier this year after a serious medical diagnosis. Just days after the All-Star Game, doctors discovered a blood clot in his right shoulder which is a condition known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Moreover, if left untreated, this condition can have life-threatening consequences, including the risk of a pulmonary embolism. The Spurs medical team acted swiftly, identifying the issue within 24 to 48 hours of Wembanyama’s return to San Antonio after the All-Star break.

But now the soccer footage tells a different story. The fact that Wembanyama is engaging in physical activity suggests he’s well ahead in his recovery. For fans and the franchise alike, it’s the clearest sign yet that he is gearing up to be back and better for the 2025-26 season.

Before his season was cut short Wembanyama was having a sophomore campaign for the ages. In just 46 games, he averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and an astonishing 3.8 blocks per game. Had he remained healthy, there’s no doubt his contributions could have tipped the balance and pushed San Antonio into playoff contention.

The Spurs may have missed the postseason, but the sight of their young star moving freely is a victory in itself and moreover this can mean even more.

Spurs Star Might Play in Eurobasket

EuroBasket by FIBA functions as one of the leading international avenues where basketball players display their abilities. The event has functioned as a platform for developing talent into international stars by putting them directly against European basketball greats.

In an interview back in mid-April, Wembanyama expressed uncertainty about his availability for EuroBasket, citing concerns about his physical condition. However, he also made it clear that he’s deeply passionate about representing France and wants to compete in every major international contest.

“I don’t know if it’s realistic, there are a lot of uncertainties… I want to play in every competition with the French team,” said Wembanyama during the interview.

That very eagerness, though, might be the driving force behind his current recovery. While there’s been no official word yet on his participation, signs are optimistic. As mentioned before his improved shoulder movement during recent appearances and combined with his known desire to don the national jersey it seems increasingly likely that Wembanyama will suit up for France in EuroBasket.

Wembanyama has previously represented France in international competitions by proudly carrying the tricolor flag in tournaments such as the 2024 Summer Olympics.
