Victor Wembanyama, in his third season in the NBA, is taking the next step toward superstardom. After a solid start to his career, this year has seen him emerge as a league-altering force as the San Antonio Spurs have become a legitimate threat in the Western Conference.

Victor Wembanyama Proves His Loyalties
After a victory over the reigning NBA Champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, on Christmas Day, the mood was clearly celebratory in the locker room. Meanwhile, the French superstar still found a way to create a viral, yet hilarious clip as he sat down at the podium with everyone’s favorite sports energy drink, Gatorade.
With branding and marketing becoming a bigger part of the basketball world, the Spurs made a major deal last year with Barcode to become their official performance water partner. The plant-based company already had Wembanyama as the face of its brand, a partnership that then extended to his team as well.
As an investor and brand partner, Wemby has been a focal point of Barcode’s campaign, which has become a staple at San Antonio home games.
As part of the partnership, they have been at all Spurs home games in bench equipment, including bottles, coolers, and towels, while serving as the presenting partner of the Spurs Human Performance x Equity program and co-presenting partner of Spurs Sports Academy Summer Camps.
With the focus on cleaner energy drinks in the market, they are the first to offer a truly revolutionary product. Per the NBA’s official release, “Barcode products are the first ever plant-based, all-natural performance drink on the market with added benefits and ingredients, including Vitamin D, B6, B12, magnesium and ashwagandha and no added sugar.”
It’s clear that the former Rookie of the Year is a strong supporter of the brand, with his loyalty evident after the win over the Thunder. After publicly calling them and the roster out, he has been a driving force behind three consecutive victories over Oklahoma City this month.
For a team that has lost two home games all season, that feat is remarkable in and of itself. But even in a game of such magnitude as the Christmas Day exhibition, the Spurs took control in the second quarter and never relinquished the lead.
It was after the game, though, that Wemby proved his loyalty to Barcode. As he sat down for the postgame press conference, he saw Gatorades on the desk around him. Immediately exclaiming, “Oh, hell no,” he questioned to the reporters around him, “Who put that here?”
