A fan captured what appeared to be an argument between VJ Edgecombe and Tyrese Maxey. The two Philadelphia 76ers players seemed to be having an animated conversation while their teammates watched and listened.
What Happened Between 76ers Tyrese Maxey and Teammate VJ Edgecombe?
Frustrations appeared to boil over for some 76ers players on Friday during their home game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. During a timeout, Edgecombe and Maxey were filmed having an animated conversation while surrounded by their teammates and the coaching staff.
Veteran guard Kyle Lowry can also be seen saying something while his two younger teammates were arguing. However, Lowry’s role in the conversation was unclear, but one might assume he’s simply keeping his younger teammates in check.

The exchange between Edgecombe and Maxey occurred after Edgecombe blew a defensive assignment, leading to an easy Cavs bucket.
Midway through the first quarter and Cleveland trailing by three, Cavs guard Craig Porter Jr. was bringing up the ball. Maxey was initially guarding him, but upon crossing half-court, Edgecombe picked Porter up as well.
In the confusion, both Maxey and Edgecombe ended up guarding the Cavs’ point guard. This resulted in Donovan Mitchell being left unchecked on the left wing. Porter saw his open teammate and immediately swung the ball to him.
Edgecombe tried to sprint to cover Mitchell, but the attempt was futile. The Cavs All-Star was given enough time to fire off and bury an uncontested 3-pointer to tie the game.
Maxey was already visibly frustrated during this sequence, and their conversation continued to the bench after that.
While some might see this as a cause for concern, it is also just a regular part of a tough season. Frustrations can easily arise, especially against a conference rival who has already come out on top in previous games.
Prior to this contest, the Cavs and the Sixers had already battled each other twice. The most recent one was on Wednesday, the first of a back-to-back series they played. In that game, the Cavs trounced the Sixers 133-107.
Their first clash this season took place back on Nov. 5, and the Cavs were victorious in that one as well, winning 132-121.
The margin wasn’t quite as wide as the first two games in this latest face-off, but the victors were still the same, as the Cavs won 117-115.
Their season series isn’t over yet, though, as there is still one game left between them. That game is scheduled to take place on Mar. 9, with Cleveland playing as the host.
