Philadelphia 76ers star point guard Tyrese Maxey took his offensive game to new heights during Thursday’s 123-114 overtime road victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, continuing his electric start to the season.

NBA Fans Celebrate Tyrese Maxey’s Career-Best 54-Point Outburst Against Bucks

Maxey stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with a career-high 54 points, five rebounds, nine assists, three steals, three blocks, and six 3-pointers, while shooting a blistering 18-for-30 (60%). The one-time All-Star also knocked down 12 of his 14 free-throw attempts (85.7%), including two late in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

Maxey’s late-game poise at the charity stripe came after he connected on a series of tough, contested jumpers and floaters down the stretch to keep his team within striking distance.

The standout showing marked Maxey’s fourth career 50-point game, all in the last three seasons, second only to Oklahoma City Thunder superstar guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (five) during that stretch. Meanwhile, the 25-year-old became the first player in NBA history to reach his aforementioned stat line in a single outing.

Following Maxey’s big night, fans took to X to give him his flowers.

“Tyrese Maxey is unreal. Basically willed this team to a win tonight. Ridiculously good player. 54 points good lord,” one fan said.

“54 points is crazy talk,” another wrote.

“Trade Embiid and PG, build around Maxey,” one user advocated.

“He has been going crazy all year, feels like he hasn’t had a bad game yet,” another pointed out.

Several fans also offered bold takes on the sixth-year guard’s league-wide standing.

“Tyrese is the best PG in the East. Just a humble superstar,” one fan asserted.

“He’s incredible. First team all NBA. MVPaxey,” another remarked.

“Maxey is the MVP of the league,” one more contended.

As for Maxey’s thoughts, he quipped postgame that it “meant a lot” to him to achieve his career high against his former coach, Doc Rivers. His scoring eruption also came on the second night of a back-to-back after Wednesday’s 121-112 home loss to the Toronto Raptors.

Maxey now sits second in the NBA in scoring (33.4 points per game), trailing only Los Angeles Lakers megastar Luka Dončić (34.6 ppg). He will look to stay hot during Sunday’s home clash against the Miami Heat (9-6), who are tied with the 76ers (9-6) in the jam-packed Eastern Conference standings.
