Tyler Herro Injury Update: Heat Star Reveals Return Timeline for Season Debut

The Miami Heat may finally be closing in on the return of one of their most important offensive weapons. Tyler Herro, who has yet to appear this season after undergoing ankle surgery, took part in team practice on Sunday, November 16, and delivered his most encouraging injury update to date.

With Miami fighting to stay afloat in the Eastern Conference, his timeline offers a much-needed boost as the team navigates multiple key absences.

Tyler Herro Sets His Return Window After First Practice of the Season

After going through a practice session, Herro spoke with ClutchPoints reporter Zachary Weinberger and revealed that he is eyeing a return within the next one to two weeks.

“It felt great being out there with teammates and being on court with them. My foot is getting better,” Herro said. “Trying to get back as soon as I can, I’m looking at about a week or two hopefully barring setbacks.”

Herro underwent surgery on September 19 to address posterior impingement syndrome in his left ankle, an issue that had affected both mobility and comfort.

Prior to surgery, the Heat projected an 8–12 week recovery timetable, placing his hopeful return in mid-to-late November. Sunday’s update confirms that he remains within that initial window and is pushing toward completing the final stages of his ramp-up.

Herro has missed all 13 games of Miami’s season so far, leaving a significant scoring void in a lineup already short-handed. The Heat currently sit at 7–6, holding the eighth seed as they attempt to buy time for their core to get healthy.

The Heat’s situation is made more complicated by the absence of Bam Adebayo, who has missed five straight games due to a toe injury. Miami has officially ruled him out of Monday’s matchup against the New York Knicks, meaning the Heat will again take the floor without two of their top three players.

Herro Could Miss Max Contract Extension

Herro’s projected timeline puts him in range to return for upcoming matchups against the Dallas Mavericks or Milwaukee Bucks next week. Miami plays four games in the coming week, and one — a road meeting with the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday, November 23– carries added significance.

Herro must appear in at least 65 games to maintain eligibility for All-NBA consideration.

That benchmark is tied directly to the possibility of earning a maximum contract extension on his current four-year, $120 million deal. Missing more than four additional games would eliminate that opportunity entirely.

For now, Herro continues progressing through practices, and the Heat will attempt to stay competitive as they await the return of their starting guard and All-Star center. If all goes well, Herro’s long-delayed season debut could arrive within the next two weeks.
