Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo spent seven years together on the Miami Heat until the franchise traded Herro in the Giannis Antetokounmpo deal this summer. It looked like Adebayo and Herro built a solid friendship, but that all changed when they got into a physical altercation at the Las Vegas Summer League.
New Reports Surface About Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro’s Fight
ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported the incident that occurred in a Las Vegas practice court on July 10. The insider said that Adebayo approached his former teammate about the comments Herro made on social media after the Heat traded him. It became more than just words after the Heat star center struck Herro with his bare hands.
The latest reporting suggests their altercation could have lasted even longer, as people had to hold back Herro from hitting back. ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne wrote about this evolving situation.
“Sources with knowledge of the encounter told ESPN that Adebayo struck Herro near his chin, although descriptions of the nature of the physical contact is in some dispute. Herro did not get knocked to the ground, according to sources with knowledge of the interaction, who added that he was restrained by others in the gym from responding physically,” Shelburne wrote.
Just a few months ago, in January, Herro asked Adebayo, “Who on the team will always have your back? No questions asked. Like, if a fight breaks out, who’s coming to save you?”
The three-time All-Star answered, “I’m going to say [Herro] just because we got the longest relationship.
Herro followed with a simple “yeah, I’m coming,” showing he had his former teammate’s back. However, their stance toward each other completely changed in a short time. Shelburne noted they had a “mostly good” relationship in Miami, but it began to take a wrong turn last season.
Herro only played 33 games in 2025-26 due to various injuries. He did not have a chance to acclimate to Miami’s new offensive scheme, which featured a fast-paced style of play and minimal on-ball screens.
The Heat led the league in scoring in the opening weeks of the campaign without Herro, as he recovered from offseason surgery. Adebayo was confident in Herro’s abilities to adjust to this new offense, but “team sources said [this] wore on Herro as he tried to come back” from injury.
This added pressure, combined with Herro’s social media comments regarding Adebayo’s hefty salary, clearly sparked a heavy disagreement between the two stars. NBA fans will want to circle their calendars for the first Miami-Milwaukee matchup in the 2026-27 regular season.
