Washington Wizards guard Trae Young, who was traded this season from the Atlanta Hawks to the Wizards, has yet to appear in a game for his new team. Young has remained on the sidelines, supporting his teammates.
On Monday night, Young received a technical foul from longtime NBA referee Tony Brothers. Young expressed frustration over a foul that was not called and walked onto the court. As a result, he was ejected.

ESPN’s SportsCenter account on X shared a video clip of Brothers explaining the incident to fans at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on Monday night. The Wizards lost to Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets 123-118.
“We have a technical foul on Trae Young for running onto the court, and he’s been ejected,” Brothers said. “We have a defensive foul on Houston and the play is being reviewed to see if it’s potentially flagrant.” The clip showed Young exiting courtside following the ejection.

The video also captured Young walking onto the court and pointing something out to Brothers. This season, Young is averaging 19.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 8.9 assists per game. He was selected No. 5 overall by the Hawks in the 2018 NBA Draft.
Following the ejection, Young addressed the situation on X. “Don’t expect me to get ejected too many more times D.C.,” Young wrote, “but I’m definitely bringing that energy & competitiveness when I’m back for my brothers!”

Young has been working on the court before games to regain conditioning but has not yet returned to play. The Wizards are 16-44 in the 2025-26 NBA season and are not expected to reach the postseason.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Monday that Young is slated to make his Wizards debut Thursday at home against the Utah Jazz.
Wizards coach Brian Keefe recently noted that the point guard is progressing toward a return and will likely be limited to roughly 17 to 20 minutes.
Young played in 10 games for the Hawks this season before suffering knee and quadriceps injuries prior to Atlanta dealing him in a trade for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert.
Young is anticipated to contribute once he returns, with hopes of helping the Wizards improve their trajectory.
