Is Anthony Edwards Playing Tonight? Latest Injury Update On Timberwolves Star For Suns Game

The Minnesota Timberwolves will be without the services of Anthony Edwards when they host the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday

Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves are in the race to finish in the top-five seeds as the regular season inches to a close.

However, the mercurial guard’s injury and the Timberwolves’ losses in their recent stretch of games have put them under immense pressure as they take the floor at home against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday (March 17).

Timberwolves Lose Anthony Edwards For Suns Clash Amid Knee Concern

As a dampener for the Timberwolves, Edwards will miss the clash against the Suns with a knee injury that has made him a regular feature on the team’s injury report.

The All-Star guard has been listed as out with right knee soreness as the side gears up for a key matchup. Also listed on the team’s IR is Naz Reid as questionable with a right shoulder contusion. Joan Beringer, Enrique Freeman, Julian Phillips, and Zyon Pullin are all out with G League duty.

Edwards has been the focal point of the Timberwolves’ offense this season, averaging 29.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists while shooting 49.2% from the field and 40.2% from the 3-point line. Now, his absence puts the pressure on the likes of Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle to keep the scoring rate churning.

Perhaps, the biggest worry for the Western Conference unit this season has been its inconsistent defense. Earlier, Edwards outlined the issue at hand after the team’s close win against a depleted Golden State Warriors side. Without their star playmaker, the Timberwolves will now have to figure out a way to stay competitive on both ends of the court.

“Miscommunication,” Edwards said, per The Athletic. “Yeah, it’s just miscommunication, teams jumping on us early. Us turning the ball over definitely doesn’t help, especially when our defense is not at a high level. I think that’s the main thing, is us turning the ball over, especially myself.”

Their latest 116-103 loss against the OKC Thunder sees the Timberwolves slip to 41-27 in the standings. They are 1-4 in their last five games. They play the Suns, who take the floor for the second night as part of their back-to-back. Their loss to the Boston Celtics on Monday sees them seventh with a 39-29 record.

The Timberwolves hope to have Edwards back when they host the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, their second night of a back-to-back. They finish their three-game home stretch against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Edwards and the Timberwolves have been perennial playoff contenders. While they have enough games to keep winning and gather some momentum heading into the postseason, they will also hope that their mainstay’s injury doesn’t keep him off the court for more time.
