Taurean Prince played a key role off the bench in the Milwaukee Bucks’ first eight games of the season. The team is off to a 6-4 record, good for fourth in the Eastern Conference standings. However, the latest injury update surrounding Prince leaves a hole in the Bucks’ bench depth and 3-point marksmanship.

Insider Provides Devastating Injury Update on Tauren Prince
Prince missed Milwaukee’s last two games with what the team labeled as a neck strain. On Nov. 9, head coach Doc Rivers told reporters the forward would be out until he underwent an MRI. Unfortunately, imaging revealed a far more worrisome injury than an ordinary neck strain.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Prince suffered a “herniated disc in his neck and is expected to miss a significant period of time.” Both the team’s “medical staff and external specialists” will determine the correct treatment for a potential return.

According to certified athletic trainer Jeff Stots, this situation can limit Prince’s daily functions. Former NBA players Tyson Chandler and Emeka Okafor suffered comparable injuries.

Prince took 3.5 3-pointers per game and shot them at a 42.9% clip. He averaged 6.1 points in 21.1 minutes per contest. He reached 10 points in two contests.
The 12th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft joins Kevin Porter Jr. on the Bucks’ long-term injury report. Porter sprained his ankle on opening night, and on Oct. 31, Milwaukee announced he suffered a right knee meniscus injury during his ramp-up. He is set to miss, at least, the month of November. Ryan Rollins stepped up impressively in Porter’s absence and could even maintain a starting role when the latter returns.
Kyle Kuzma and Amir Coffey likely see increased minutes without Prince. However, neither player possesses Prince’s 3-point marksmanship. Coffey brings perimeter defense, while Kuzma’s shot creation can help the offense when Giannis Antetokounmpo heads to the bench.
Bucks Lose Important 3-Point Shooter
Prince was a valuable contributor to Milwaukee’s strong offensive start to the season. They rank eighth in offensive rating at 117.5, behind a strong presence from beyond the arc. The Bucks average 15.3 3-pointers per game on 40.1% shooting, good for fifth and third across the NBA, respectively.
Prince’s 42.9% long-range efficiency places third on the team among the volume outside shooters. His absence puts more pressure on Rollins, AJ Green, Gary Trent Jr., Myles Turner, and Cole Anthony to knock down shots beyond the arc.
The Bucks face the Dallas Mavericks on Nov. 10 before a home-and-home series with the Charlotte Hornets. Barring any other significant injuries, they will be favored in all three contests.
