The Phoenix Suns are navigating serious trade talks involving Kevin Durant, but they remain unimpressed by what’s currently on the table. According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Jon Krawczynski, the Houston Rockets have submitted a formal offer for the 36-year-old future Hall of Famer.
Despite Durant’s elite production, Phoenix is reportedly “underwhelmed” by the proposal. The team has received interest from multiple Western Conference contenders, but no deal has gained traction. Discussions have advanced to the point of firm offers, though the Suns appear hesitant to move forward under the current terms.

Kevin Durant Trade Discussions Progress, But Suns Hold Firm
As the NBA offseason heats up, Durant’s future remains a central storyline. The Houston Rockets, fresh off a 52-win season and boasting a strong core of young talent, have reportedly made a “firm offer” to the Phoenix Suns for the 36-year-old forward. Still, Phoenix is not impressed.
According to The Athletic’s Amick and Krawczynski, the Suns have been “seriously underwhelmed” by the proposal despite Houston’s extensive assets, including multiple players under age 23.
“The Rockets and Suns have had meaningful discussions about a deal, team sources said,” Amick and Krawczynski wrote. “Houston has a firm offer on the table but Phoenix, to this point, has been seriously underwhelmed by it.”
The Phoenix Suns have been underwhelmed by the offers from the Heat, Spurs, and Rockets, and are hoping Kevin Durant will warm up to the idea of playing in Minnesota, per @JonKrawczynski & @sam_amick

Durant has one year remaining on his current contract and will turn 37 before the start of next season. His willingness to sign an extension has reportedly been communicated to just three teams, giving those front offices added leverage in trade talks. Still, Phoenix is determined to secure a return that justifies Durant’s value and supports their goal of staying competitive.
The San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat have also been identified as Durant’s preferred landing spots, along with Houston. However, neither team has made a serious offer.
“The Spurs, league sources say, have been conservative in their pursuit of Durant,” Amick and Krawczynski noted.
As for Miami, it remains uncertain whether the Heat have the assets or motivation to make a competitive bid. Minnesota, once active in talks back in February, remains a team to watch.
The Timberwolves reportedly entered discussions believing Durant was open to joining them. He shares a strong relationship with Anthony Edwards and has long-standing ties to team president Tim Connelly. A hypothetical pairing with Jaden McDaniels could also ease Durant’s defensive responsibilities.
Durant’s situation continues to draw significant attention during the NBA Finals. With only a select group of teams in serious pursuit, the Suns appear content to wait for an offer that meets their expectations, rather than settling for less than what a future Hall of Famer commands.
