Stephen Curry Hints at Warriors Exit, Keeping ‘Options Open’ for a Move to the Hornets

With the Golden State Warriors going nowhere, Stephen Curry did not sound completely opposed to the idea of joining the Hornets.

The NBA has always been a league driven by player movement. But over the last two decades, that practice has become the norm, with very few stars adhering to the one-team mindset. The one exception to that rule, of course, is Stephen Curry.

Drafted by the Golden State Warriors, he has unquestionably become one of the greatest players in NBA history and the greatest Warrior ever. However, after a rough couple of seasons, it looks like the only unanimous MVP in history might be open to a move.

Stephen Curry Could Leave the Warriors for the Charlotte Hornets

For the better part of two decades, Curry has been the face of the Warriors. The franchise leader in points and the all-time leader in 3-pointers made, he brought forward the sport’s revolution, winning two MVPs and four titles in the process.

But since their last hurrah in 2022, the team has been struggling to find its footing. Yet to make it back to a conference finals, their best finish has been bowing out in the second round of the postseason, with multiple seedings in the Play-In Tournament.

This year, too, as injuries have derailed him completely, the team is firmly locked into the 7-10 seed, with little hope of a deep playoff run. As a result, a once unimaginable thought seems ever closer to reality.

Even though he seemed like he’d be a Warrior for life, the 12-time All-Star is now considering taking his talents elsewhere for a final dance. And the team he has in mind is one of the friskier groups in the Eastern Conference with a ton of upside.

The Charlotte Hornets, in recent years, have nailed the draft with selections of Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel. Add in a dynamic lead guard in LaMelo Ball, and they have the foundations of becoming a legitimate player.

Now, they might be garnering interest from one of the greatest players the NBA has ever seen. WSOCTV asked him about potentially wearing his father’s jersey for the Hornets and how that would go after Dell Curry had No. 30 retired by Charlotte.

“When you get your jersey retired, it’s immortalized. Nobody should be able to touch it. But I’m sure he’d be able to make a special exception if that was the case.” The case in point from Curry is the possibility of leaving Golden State to join the Hornets.

And while it would be easy to dismiss that thought at face value, the greatest shooter in NBA history did not disregard the thought that easily. “You always keep your options open,” is all he offered on the subject.

For Warriors fans who experienced the greatest highs of the 2010s with him, this might be the final nail in the coffin.
