Stephen Curry Recalls Reading NBA Fans’ X Posts for ‘Extra Motivation’

Here's what Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry used to do in order to motivate himself when performing poorly in the past.

Stephen Curry recently revealed an interesting method he used to boost his motivation during challenging periods of his career. The majority of the basketball world is aware that Curry is the greatest long-distance shooter in NBA history and a four-time NBA champion.

The Golden State Warriors veteran has long cemented himself as both a face of the league and a global ambassador for the sport, and his 2022 NBA title run briefly quieted critics who questioned his flaws. During a recent episode of LeBron James’ podcast, Curry reflected on that journey and opened up about a key strategy he leaned on early in his career, shaping the success he eventually built.

Stephen Curry Used Criticism on Social Media To Motivate Himself

Although the majority of stars across the league may hesitate to admit it, there is no denying that social media has an impact on all of them. After all, every player has their own fan base and set of critics, eager to judge every statement and performance.

On an episode of Mind the Game, the Warriors veteran admitted that there was truth to the claims that he used social media to motivate himself in the midst of games.

“I did that. I’m not proud of it but it was a fun time. But yeah it was a two year stretch…Its only if I was playing bad. So if I was tripping, not in rhythm, shooting horrible, whatever, I would go and get a little motivation. So it was maybe four quick scrolls, find something, alright. Coach walks in, ‘I’m ready.'”

The Warriors star also revealed that there was a specific point in time when his locker room actions were noticed, urging members of the media to communicate with him directly via social media. At the time, Curry even accepted requests for particular celebrations, confirming that he was genuinely listening to the NBA world.

Given the accomplishments and accolades that Curry has amassed throughout his illustrious career, it must have been humbling for him to admit that there was a time in his life when he used negative criticism on social media as a source of motivation.

While the NBA world may have mixed opinions on his decision, there is no denying that Curry has achieved an incredible amount of success. Some fans have compared him to the greatest players in league history, adamantly stating that he deserves to be included in the GOAT conversation.

In any case, it is somewhat reassuring for fans to hear that stars like Curry are as human as everyone else, needing motivation to get out of slumps and using social media to do the same.
