“He’s definitely still out there on the bench with us,” said Jimmy Butler III about Stephen Curry after Game 2 of the second round of the playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
While the Warriors hoped to capitalize on that spirit and take a 2-1 series lead in Game 3 on May 10, fate had other plans. Golden State fell (102-97) without their superstar Curry, who was sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Yet amid the disappointment of another game loss, a heartwarming moment captured during the game is winning hearts across the internet, and it has nothing to do with the scoreboard.
Stephen Curry Seen Grooving With His Son
Despite the somber sight of Curry sitting in street clothes at the end of the bench, a fan-recorded video from Game 3 is going viral for all the right reasons. In it, Curry is seen bouncing and grooving gently with his youngest son, Caius Chai Curry, during a timeout. The presence of little Caius at the game might have been a pre-birthday treat as he turned one year old on May 11.

Caius is the fourth child of Curry and Ayesha, who have become a beloved power couple in and out of the sports world. Their story goes back to 2003 when they were just teens—Curry was 15, and Ayesha was 14.
Years later, in 2011, they tied the knot in a heartfelt ceremony at the Ballantyne Resort. A year later, they welcomed their first daughter, Riley Elizabeth, whose spunky personality once took over an NBA postgame press conference and instantly became a fan favorite.
Their family grew with the arrival of their second daughter, Ryan Carson, in 2015, followed by their son, Canon W. Jack, in 2018. Then last year came baby Caius, whose presence on the sidelines in Game 3 brought an unexpected dose of warmth to an otherwise tough night for the Warriors fans.
Curry’s Probable Return Date on the Court
In Game 1 of the second round series on May 6, Curry nailed a three-pointer but soon found himself in discomfort after attempting a defensive play. Though he remained on the floor long enough to hit a floater, Curry signaled for a substitution shortly after and limped off to the locker room during the second quarter.
He did not return for the rest of the game. The Warriors later confirmed that Curry had sustained a Grade 1 hamstring strain.
Since then, Curry has missed both Game 2 and Game 3, and his absence has noticeably impacted Golden State’s rhythm and scoring punch. Fans were hopeful for a quicker recovery, but ESPN’s NBA Insider Shams Charania recently reported that Curry is still not close to returning, offering little optimism for an immediate comeback.
“Stephen Curry is back in San Francisco, and he’s receiving a ton of treatment on that hamstring strain. There is still plenty of work to be done to get him to the point of movement, contact, running, and sprinting… Buy Stephen Curry some time. Internally, there is uncertainty. I’m told the Warriors are really looking at that Game 6 as the earliest potential window for Stephen Curry’s return,” said Charania on NBA Countdown.
The Warriors are set to face the Timberwolves in Game 4 on May 12. With Curry unlikely to suit up, the team will have to lean heavily on Brandin Podziemski and veteran leadership from Butler to stay competitive in the series.
