Is Stephen Curry Playing Tonight vs. Lakers? Latest Details on Warriors Star’s Status for Preseason Game

With the 2025-26 NBA preseason in progress, let's take a look at Stephen Curry's status update for the Warriors-Lakers clash.

The 2025-26 NBA season has finally kicked off. And after a tiring and exhaustive offseason, the Golden State Warriors are ready to jump back in with their ambitious championship hopes.

Of course, Stephen Curry — entering the last leg of his illustrious career — remains at the center of the Warriors’ offense. And while it’s just the preseason, loyal fans remain excited to see the four-time NBA champion back in action.

Is Golden State Warriors Icon Stephen Curry Playing vs. the Los Angeles Lakers?

With the preseason here, fans eagerly await an update on Curry’s status for their upcoming game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to recent reports, however, the 37-year-old  won’t be playing against LeBron James’ Lakers on Sunday. The exact reason for Curry’s absence wasn’t disclosed.

As per Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Kerr provided an update on Curry’s status before the game.

“No Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, Al Horford,\ or Moses Moody tomorrow in Los Angeles. Curry is banged up, per Kerr, but plan is to play Tuesday in Portland,” Slater wrote in a tweet post.

Fans, agreeing with the decision, want the Warriors to focus more on trying out new lineup combos before the actual season begins. The Warriors struggled without Curry last season, crashing out in the postseason despite having Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green on the roster.

Jonathan Kuminga, who is still with the team, has yet to find a renewed focus after Butler’s trade.

Curry started this preseason with a game against the Lakers, scoring 14 points, one rebound, and two assists while shooting 60% from the three-point line in 15 minutes.

In his second game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Curry dropped 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists in 16 minutes. He shot 40% from the three-point line.

That being said, there’s concern around Curry’s injury, especially after his hamstring injury during the playoffs.

Curry is Hopeful About Warriors’ 2025-26 Season

In a recent practice session interview with ClutchPoints reporter Kenzo Fukuda, Curry spoke about the team’s focus as they enter another season — this time with heightened expectations for a title.

“They all are intense, and they should be. I think there’s a different element this year, maybe because it’s outside the championship year that we are coming back. This is the continuity of how we ended last year. We have a higher sense of understanding of what we need to do to carry the momentum we had last year,” said Curry during the interview.

The Warriors-Lakers preseason clash is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 12, at 9:30 p.m. EST at the Crypto.com Arena (formerly Staples Center) in California.
