ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania Reveals Bucks’ Shocking Asking Price for Giannis Antetokounmpo

NBA insider Shams Charania reveals what the Milwaukee Bucks were demanding from teams for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Milwaukee Bucks have been in the eye of the trade deadline storm, and no name has dominated the conversation more than Giannis Antetokounmpo. With the team sitting at 20-29 and firmly out of playoff contention at 12th in the Eastern Conference, the two-time MVP’s future in Milwaukee became the league’s biggest question mark.

What Did the Bucks Demand For Giannis Antetokounmpo?

Behind closed doors, teams across the NBA were reportedly making aggressive inquiries about the superstar forward, hoping the Bucks might finally be ready to hit the reset button on a franchise that has underachieved for the past several seasons despite having one of the most dominant players in basketball history.

But those inquiries were met with a price tag that left teams stunned. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Bucks made it clear they were not interested in any trade unless the return was completely overwhelming.

“I had one team tell me that the Bucks essentially told them we want you to blow us away, but it was never given what that means aside from maybe 4, 5, 6 first-round picks,” Shams Charania revealed on ESPN.

The asking price was astronomical, and teams quickly realized that prying Antetokounmpo away from Milwaukee would require a package rarely seen in modern NBA trade history. The Greek star reportedly had interest from the Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, and the New York Knicks. That number is staggering. Four to six first-round picks, along with the accompanying young talent and salary-matching pieces required to make a deal work, would represent one of the richest hauls in NBA trade history.

The Bucks were asking for a great amount of draft capital to part with a 31-year-old Antetokounmpo, who is averaging 28.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists this season while shooting an elite 64.5% from the field. The numbers clearly indicate that he’s worth the gamble, but no team will ever be ready to pull the trigger.

The trade rumors reached a fever pitch after Antetokounmpo deleted all Bucks-related content from his social media accounts, a move that sent shockwaves through the league. Then came the calf injury against the Denver Nuggets, an injury that left him without a timetable for return and cast even more doubt over his long-term future in Milwaukee.

Multiple reports indicated the superstar was “ready for a new home” at the deadline or in the offseason, with several rival teams preparing aggressive offers.

But ultimately, the Bucks decided to hold firm. On the eve of the trade deadline, Shams Charania reported that Milwaukee had indicated to teams that it intends to keep Giannis through the remainder of the season.
