Two games have passed since Tyrese Maxey went out with an injury on Saturday. NBA insider Shams Charania previously reported that Maxey would only miss a couple of games. However, it appears that the tides have turned, and we might be looking at a longer recovery period.
Chrarania recently reported on social media about Maxey’s potential return timeline for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Tyrese Maxey’s Return From Injury Prolonged
The 76ers took on the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday. While Maxey had an impressive outing with 31 points, five assists, two rebounds, and four steals, he ultimately hurt himself by the end of the game.
With 16 seconds remaining in the final quarter, Maxey collided with his teammate Adem Bona. Both Sixers players hustled for the ball, leading to their collision. Unfortunately, Maxey ended up injuring his right pinkie finger.
Initially, NBA insider Charania reported that Maxey would miss only two games after Saturday’s mishap. However, it appears that the doctors have diagnosed Maxey’s injury much worse than anticipated.
In a recent report, Charania revealed that Maxey has been diagnosed with a tendon injury in his right pinkie finger. Having said that, he is now expected to miss three weeks.
“Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey has been diagnosed with a tendon injury in his right pinkie finger and will be re-evaluated in three weeks,” Charania reported on X. “Maxey received additional images and specialist reviews after injuring his right hand Saturday in Atlanta.”

Maxey’s injury is unfortunate timing for the 76ers. With him out, he now joins fellow stars Joel Embiid and Paul George on the sidelines. Embiid is currently out due to a right oblique strain. Meanwhile, George is still serving a league suspension.
With only 18 games remaining in their regular season, the clock is ticking for the Sixers. Without their star players, Philly is at risk of dropping down the standings. They’re currently in eighth place with a 34-30 record.
Seeing how the Atlanta Hawks (33-31) are only one game behind the Sixers and are on a six-game winning streak, they could easily overtake them for eighth place. The 10th-placed Charlotte Hornets (32-33) aren’t too far behind either.
