As Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continues to rise in the NBA, many fans are curious about the Oklahoma City Thunder star’s personal life. While he tends to keep it private, here’s what we know about his wife, Hailey Summers, and their son.
Who Is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Wife, Hailey Summers?
Gilgeous-Alexander married his longtime girlfriend, Summers, on Valentine’s Day in February 2024. The couple had been reportedly dating for over six years before tying the knot.
Like Gilgeous-Alexander, Summers is a Canadian-born athlete, but instead of basketball, she played soccer. She was a member of the University at Albany’s soccer team from 2017 to 2021, recording three assists and one goal in 56 appearances. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
While the couple has kept much of their relationship private, they’ve shared glimpses of their life together on social media. That’s also how fans learned that they are now parents.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s Children With Summers
Gilgeous-Alexander and Summers welcomed their son, Ares Alexander, in April 2024, two months after their wedding. They announced Summers’ pregnancy in late 2023 in an Instagram post.

The Thunder star called fatherhood “the best thing in the world” and shared the inspiration behind his son’s name.
“It’s a different type of love,” he said via Joe Mussatto of The Oklahoman. “It’s surreal. It’s hard to wrap your head around. But it’s for sure the best thing in the world, hands down.”
As for why they chose the name Ares, Gilgeous-Alexander said it wasn’t because of Greek mythology’s god of war.
“We just liked the name Ares,” he said. “The god of war thing, it didn’t come into play. Sounds cool, though.”
Gilgeous-Alexander and Summers’ Relationship Timeline
While it’s unclear exactly how they met, reports suggest Gilgeous-Alexander and Summers connected in 2017 while in school. Summers remains involved in his basketball career and isn’t afraid to offer critiques of his game.
“If my mindset is off, she makes sure I know,” he told Marc Spears in an interview. “She can see if I wear it on my sleeve. She can see if I’m not aggressive and say, ‘What is the point of being out there if you’re not being aggressive?’ It’s a little hard, but I’m like, ‘[Expletive], you’re right.'”
