Shai Gilgeous-Alexander truly is a special player, for anyone who didn’t know. Since he took the reins as the Oklahoma City Thunder’s alpha dog, he has only continued to make history with every game he dominates.
As if guiding the franchise to its first title and winning the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award wasn’t enough for the Thunder star, he has also put himself among all-time greats with his latest accolade.

What Greats Did the Thunder Star Join Recently This Season?
The NBA History X account revealed that Gilgeous-Alexander has done something that the NBA has only seen from Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan.
“Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has scored 30+ points in 17 of the Thunder’s 21 games this season (81%),” the league revealed. “The only players in NBA history to score 30+ points in 80% of their team’s games in a season are Wilt Chamberlain (4x) and Michael Jordan (1986-87).”

Jordan and Chamberlain are routinely brought up as two of the best NBA players ever, so to see Gilgeous-Alexander put in the same company as them demonstrates just how special he is.
What makes it even more unique is that the Thunder star isn’t the same player as Jordan or Chamberlain. Chamberlain was a center while Jordan was a shooting guard. Gilgeous-Alexander is a point guard who expertly picks his spots. He not only thrives as a scorer but as a playmaker.
Gilgeous-Alexander is also only in his eighth NBA season, so there’s no telling how many more times he will be brought up in company like this. He is only entering his prime as a superstar.

The reason why there aren’t (and shouldn’t be) any detractors for stats like these is that it’s getting the Thunder results. Not only are they the NBA Champions, but they are also 20-1, demonstrating how they continue to dominate the NBA with relative ease. Even scarier, they’ve maintained this dominance without Jalen Williams, the team’s second-best player.
Gilgeous-Alexander is primarily responsible for their success because of the numbers he has been putting up this season. At this rate, between Gilgeous-Alexander’s individual dominance as a player and the Thunder’s dominance as a team, it seems pretty reasonable to believe this contender will be here to stay for quite some time.
