Russell Westbrook Cracks NBA All-Time Top 5 Assists List

The milestone came in the second quarter of the game. With an assist near the five-minute mark, Westbrook officially moved past NBA Legend Steve Nash on the all-time list.

Hoops Central captured the significance of the achievement on X:

“BREAKING: Russell Westbrook is now No. 5 All-Time in Assists. 🔥🔥🔥

RESPECT”

Westbrook now sits fifth on the all-time assists leaderboard with 10,336 assists, joining an elite list featuring John Stockton (15806), Chris Paul (12552), Jason Kidd (12091), and LeBron James (11909). In the process, he surpassed Nash and Mark Jackson to enter the top five.

Interestingly, the historic moment came on a rough night for Westbrook’s current team, the Kings. Spurs, the Western Conference contenders, got the grip of the proceedings from the start, blowing out the Kings 132-104 on Tuesday night at the Golden 1 Center.

The loss further highlighted the Kings’ struggles this season, as they remain at the bottom of the Western Conference standings with an 18-52 record. It has been a challenging campaign, even after Westbrook joined the franchise on Oct. 15, 2025, for his 18th NBA season.

Against the Spurs, Westbrook registered five points, one rebound, and 10 assists in 25 minutes, shooting 33.3% from the field. While his scoring impact was limited, his playmaking once again stood out on a historic night.

Over the course of his career, Westbrook has shared the court with some of the biggest names in the league, including Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, James Harden, and Chris Paul. Yet, he continues to carve out his own legacy as one of the most dynamic guards in NBA history.

Meanwhile, Westbrook’s achievement wasn’t the only bright spot for Sacramento. French phenom Maxime Raynaud delivered a standout performance, scoring a career-high 32 points. His previous best was 29 points against the Portland Trail Blazers on December 18.

For the 2025–26 season, Westbrook is averaging 15.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game, while shooting 42.8% from the field and 34.1% from beyond the arc.

Despite the Kings’ struggles, Westbrook continues to make history. Even in his 18th season, the veteran guard and 2017 NBA MVP is steadily climbing the record books and adding new milestones to his already remarkable career. Westbrook and the Kings will be back in action against the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday, March 19.
