Russell Westbrook is now a member of the Sacramento Kings, improving the team’s chance of securing a spot in the Western Conference playoffs. By signing a contract with the Kings, the veteran point guard is expected to suit up for Year 18.
Although many veteran fans will agree that a prime version of Westbrook deserves to be mentioned when discussing the greatest point guards in league history. He has been “passed around” by various teams ever since leaving the OKC Thunder.
By joining the Kings, Westbrook will be playing for his seventh team. This is something that fans simply did not see coming given that there were no substantial rumors surrouding him this offseason. As Westbrook looks to finish his career with the Kings, fans want to know more details about the contract that he has been offered.
Russell Westbrook’s contract with the Sacramento Kings is currently unknown
Given that this deal between Westbrook and the Kings appears to have been finalized very recently, specific details regarding the contract have not been made available. According to Spotrac.com, Westbrook is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Kings for $3.6 million. Although this figure is yet to be officially confirmed, it is likely an accurate estimate based on the deals he has signed over the past few seasons.
Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists in 75 games with the Nuggets last season. He put up these numbers while logging in just under 28 minutes a game.
Considering that Westbrook has made around $350 million via contract earnings, he does not need to demand anything beyond the veteran minimum deal, which is exactly what the Kings are planning to offer him.
This is a mutually beneficial situation for both parties. The Kings were not expected to make any noise in the West heading into this season, and Westbrook was presumed to find himself out of the league. Now, he is on the Kings, and the fanbase feels a flicker of hope.
While winning an NBA championship might seem to be out of the question, fans are left wondering what Westbrook will be able to accomplish in the final years of his career.
