Across the NBA’s 79-year history, the league has produced countless superstars who helped reshape the sport. Yet one debate that never fades is the question of the greatest of all time, or GOAT.
Determining the greatest player of all time is ultimately subjective, though fans often point to Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant. NBA legend Reggie Miller recently weighed in on the discussion.

Reggie Miller Weighs In on NBA’s Greatest of All Time Debate
During a guest appearance on the “Dan Patrick Show,” Miller was asked to identify the GOAT among Jordan, Bryant, and James.
Miller acknowledged Jordan as his personal choice but emphasized that the circumstances are subjective. He explained that Bryant was “a better version” of Jordan and added that James has had the strongest career of the three. In his view, any one of them could be considered the GOAT depending on preference.
“I think we get caught up when we talk about the GOAT situation and the GOAT debate,” Miller said. “To me, the best player of the three is MJ. Kobe is a clone and a better version. He’s Mike on steroids. … If you’re talking about careers, the best career out of all three of them, in my opinion, is LeBron.”
“Career versus player. There’s a difference,” Miller added. “LeBron has had the best career out of anyone. But if we’re going stack-for-stack player, to me: MJ, Kobe, and then LeBron.”

Each of the three legends has a compelling case.
Jordan dominated the 1990s with the Chicago Bulls, securing six NBA titles in eight years and six Finals MVPs, a record. He averaged 30.1 points per game over 1,072 contests, retiring with 32,292 points while earning five league MVPs.
Bryant, his stylistic heir with the Los Angeles Lakers, mirrored that success with five rings, two Finals MVPs, and an MVP in 2008. Over 1,346 games, the Black Mamba tallied 33,643 points.
James, still active with the Lakers into 2026, surpasses both in endurance, holding the scoring record at over 40,000 points across 1,500-plus games. His four titles, four Finals MVPs, and four league MVPs shine, bolstered by elite playmaking.
Beyond holding the title as the NBA’s scoring leader in both the regular season and playoffs, James recently claimed the top spot in career field goals made, overtaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbarm another figure often mentioned in the GOAT conversation.
